This is along the same lines - asking here instead of trying to find an old thread due to Covid changes...
If we want to just get off the ship and explore, what is there to do within walking distance of the ship? We are trying to decide if we should keep our Pearl Island excursion. All will be vaccinated (assuming kids are able in the next few weeks), with 2 adults and 2 kids.
Some of the more popular sights within walking distance are the government building, the forts, the Queen's Staircase, the pirate museum, and the handcraft market. There are also some restaurants and shops, of course. And the Graycliff hotel / restaurant / chocolate factory.
Keep in mind that all of those sites will have locals trying to get money out of you, often in dishonest ways. For instance, at the market, some guy put bracelets on our wrists without really asking and then demanded money "for the kids, for schools" and got mad when I only gave him the last $10 that I had on me. At the Queen's Staircase, we happened to be nearby when a man was explaining the history of the site to another group of people and, when he saw us, he came over and demanded that we "fix him up" and wouldn't go away until we gave him money. Even just sitting outside the government building to get my camera out, a man walked up to us and started to explain where he could take us in his taxi and got visibly annoyed when we told him that we didn't want to go anywhere with him. You get the idea.
I don't bother to visit Nassau anymore without a guided tour. It's not worth the hassle.
