Do your kids like classical music?

I love classical music, and my kids have been exposed to it since they were babies. They are teens now and can recognize many different composers and opera singers (they love the usual "teenager music" too). They also love church music.

When I taught kindergarten, I played classical music as background in my classroom (the usual stuff, too - I alternated). My classroom was often calmer than others, especially on rainy days. A parent came in one day, expressed her surprise and said that her child would NEVER listen to classical. She was even more surprised when I told her that her child had asked for a particular Bach selection the day before.

We played all kinds of music for our babies - we even put a radio in the bassinet when they first came home from the hospital - more to teach them to sleep with normal sounds in the house than to instill a love of music.

However, our DD grew up loving all kinds of music, playing the piano, organ, flute and violin, and eventually became a high school choral director. Her original college major, however, was engineering and she was an excellent math student, AP calculus, etc. She just couldn't give up the music for the engineering!!!

DS grew up singing and dancing in high school (and playing football), and now wants to be a sportscaster when he graduates from college next year. I guess he heard more of the sports reporting than the music, hehehe!!!
