Mine always had school on veterans Day when we lived in Michigan. The school always had parents or grandparents who were vets come in and talk to the kids--which I thought was nice. In New Hampshire the schools were out (obviously both these places would be just our district and not statewide). Obviously not a holiday here in Germany But I had one home anyway with swine flu

Yes, my kids have school, but they are homeschooled. We rarely take off once we start the school year. But, we don't start until mid Sept. and finish up the end of March.

We don't ever have school on Wednesdays here. But today is Armistice Day-- so no work or open businesses either.

No school here is North Eastern California - no goverment (fed, state or county) open - banks closed - pretty much a holiday for most

Yes, they have school today. It's never been a day off around here and I grew up just 27 miles away (different state though).

Still working on the packing.. It's a long, slow tedious process.. Doesn't help that I keep "reviewing" the weather online over and over to see if I can squeeze out one more week here.. LOL..

Wow! You finish the end of March with your homeschooling? How do you manage? My DD has a neighbor/friend that homeschools and she keeps the same schedule as the regular school district..

Wow I am shocked to hear that some places have school today---they close for every little thing but then don't close for Veterans Day!!! Wow- that SO does not seem right!

Also, some schools close for election day and others don't.. Where I grew up as a kid (in the country) they didn't, but in the cities, they were often used for polling places so they would close on election day..

No school for DS12 or DS8 here in NH. I think the teachers still had to go though. They District arranged the schedule so that all TW Days take place on a day that is all ready going to be a day off. The teachers were not too happy about that!

No. And we didn't have school last Wednesday because of a furlough day for teachers. So for two weeks we are off two, on two, off one, on two, repeat. I kind of like it!

My DH is a prof at SCAD, a private college, and they work most holidays like Vets, Columbus day, MLK. They have Fridays off, and they would have to make up the class on Friday if they skipped it.

We had school and we did a wonderful Veterans day ceremony. Family members who were veterans were invited to breakfast and the ceremony. The kids sang them songs and read essays. We even had a PP presentation with pictures of deployed Soldiers. It was so beautiful and when they showed DH's picture I cried. The whole schol added something to the event. Everyone worked had and it showed.

I teach in NJ and we did have school today, but we just had two days off last week for teacher's convention so I think that's part of the reason.
