Do your kids get 104 days of summer vacation?

Interesting how the American schools have such a longer break than Canada. Our schools tend to go to the end of June and start again just after Labour Day.

NOt really when you figure the days. If we get our June 21 or 28 and go back before Labor Day it is roughly the same.

We get two weeks for fall break, 2 1/2 for Christmas, one the week of Ash Wednesday, 2 for Easter and 2 around Whit Monday. So every 6-7 weeks there is at least one week off and usually two. I like the shorter summer with more other usuable breaks better than one long summer

We break up July 23rd and go back September 4th, so 42 days.

We do get a week off in November, 2 weeks off over Christmas, a week off in February, 2 weeks off over Easter and another week off in June though.

That's pretty close to the public school year here, but they go to the end of May, and go back about the same time, so that's about 90 days of summer vacation, plus a week for Thanksgiving, 2 weeks for Christmas, 1 week for Presidents day and 1 week for Easter. Thanksgiving break used to be just 2 days not 5, and President's Day used to be 1 day, but now they take a week, not sure why that changed, but both changed about 10 years ago. Oh, and 2 years ago, they made every Thursday a half day.

No wonder the U.S. education system is struggling to keep up with the rest of the world. They fail to see that actually school attendance plays a key role

I can't imagine going through July! But I do think I would like it if we started back earlier and then got a fall break. That is such a nice time to be off here.

As it is, we have 69 days this year, and the song did always sound strange to us.

Yeah, late July always seems to take forever to get here. And their cousins in Colorado are out from late May to mid August--so we only end up with about 2 weeks at most that they can all be together--which kind of stinks if we are going to pay to fly all the way there.

Buuuuuuuuut, that September week is fabulous for finding great deals on cruises or other travel ,as it the fall break

We added it up a couple of years ago. We actually had exactly the same number of school days my nieces and nephews--they are just divided up differently.

On year we had a major heat wave, record highs for about three weeks in a row--before school was out. That had "hietze freizeit" and let all the kids off school at 10:30 each day. The kids had a school with a public pool on the next block and even for those first 2 1/2 hours that they had to be there, the teaches told them to bring suits and they were only going to the pool every day--it was too hot to work.

But how many days do you get off during the year?
My kids don't get a full week break all year, except for Christmas. This year my kids had 7 school days off for Christmas. Other than that only a day or two here or there. They go till the end of the 1st week in June and start the day after labor day.

That's about what we usually get. But this year we got out on June 21st because we had less vacation days during the school year. And we're not starting until 9/9 because Rosh Hashana is on 9/5 & 9/6. I guess they didn't want to start school on 9/3 or 9/4 and then be off for 2 days. Next year school ends on 6/26.

Out May23rd. Go back August 1st this year.

Next year we will go until the first week of June and start back the end of July.

just tell 'em to enjoy it regardless of the length.... when they finish school and get jobs (depending on their profession), they'll be lucky to get 2-3 weeks all year, much less spring break/summer vacation/fall break/winter break/etc....

If I took all my vacation weeks from work plus all my personal days at one time I would be able to be off for 6 1/2 weeks in the summer each year- I usually break it up though to 3 weeks in the summer, 2 at Christmas and then the rest taken in 1-2 days spots throughout the year.

I'm willing to wager you're the exception, not the rule. I'm maxed out at 21 days vacation, and you only get to that point (at my company) after 15 years I think.

Our school district adopted a balanced calendar a few years ago. I love it! While we have a short summer, we also get fabulous breaks throughout the year. 2 weeks in the fall, 2 weeks at Christmas, 2 weeks at Spring break as well.

We finished the year on May 30. School starts back up on July 31. 8 weeks of summer vacation isn't bad.

No matter how long it is, I'm always ready for them to go back!!!!

Back to school shopping starts after Independance day.

I'm willing to wager you're the exception, not the rule. I'm maxed out at 21 days vacation, and you only get to that point (at my company) after 15 years I think.

We max out at 5 weeks vac, 1 birthday (you can add it to your vacation or use it as a Personal Day) and 6 personal days. If you are on vacation for a holiday you add that to the end of your vacation for extra day off or you can go back and pick it up for extra money at the end of your vacation. You can put it all together in July and get the entire month off plus part of August and add the extra day in for 4th of July and get 61/2 weeks off providing you have the seniority since all our vacation picks are in seniority order.

We always left school in mid July and went back in early September- about a month and a half, or around 45 days.

Between secondary school and sixth form college was my longest summer holiday- mid June to late September! That was just under 3 1/2 months, so about 106 days. I beat Phineas and Ferb on summer holiday length that year!

76 days May 24 to Aug 7th and its going too fast
