Do your kids ask before they have a snack?

I'm just curious, do your kids ask permission before they get a snack or do they grab what they want.

My sister and I request that our kids ask before they snack. Sometimes I want them to have something healthy or it's too close to dinner time. I don't usually want my kids to have a snack right before dinner, I want them to eat the dinner that I have prepared. (Except for my 16 yo DS, he's eating for 3 or 4 right now I think!)

My SIL's kids on the other hand rifle through the pantry and eat whatever. They also sneak snacks when they think you aren't looking. My SIL wonders why they are terrible eater's. They eat fine, they just eat chips and cookies all day.

i don't ask before i take a snack...but i like the dinners my mom prepares, so im smart enough not to eat to close to dinner....and with running in the afternoon, i always have to eat after i finish around 4ish

No, they just help themselves. My ds snacks more than my dd. And he has a very healthy appetite (he's 7 yo, and he eats more than I do at dinner time:eek: ). My dd is a picky eater, snacks or no snacks. Always has been. If it doesn't have cheese on it, she may not eat it.;)

My boys are 8 and 10, and they usually only ask if it's junk food or sweets.

I have a teenage son so if it's not nailed down he eats it.

I've warned both the cats and the dog to stay out of his way when he is in a feeding frenzy.

My teen DD usually grazes through the day.

Both are very tall and thin.

My children ask about 90% of the time. Usually cause they can't find anything that they like!! .......................P

Most of the time Pete does, but I don't sweat it because when he doesn't he usually just grabs some grapes or mandarin oranges. :)

DD asks most of the time but even if she does get something out on her own she'll ask before she eats it.

My 6.5 year old asks permission. My 20 month old screeches until I comply. :)

My kids should always ask, but I have caught the younger one sneaking from time to time.

Most of the time they do ask which is good because they always seem to want a snack right before dinner and I won't let them have one or they won't want to eat dinner.

My DD's, age 8 and 5, always ask first. I'm glad they do because I don't want them eating right before dinner.

Yes. They are 8 and 11. I remember going to a neighbors house and watching her 4 year old go to the fridge and pour himself soda - I couldn't believe it. The mom watched him and said "he drinks way too much pop!" as if she had no control over it.

DS knows he can have anything healthy at anytime.
Other things like pop, donuts, cookies, ice cream only
are granted by Mom or Dad. Actually, they are rarely in
our home to just grab. Girl Scout cookies recently were
very tempting. Glad I only bought a few boxes!

Mine ask before having a snack, they are 4 and 7.

We buy a supply of soda every Saturday and divide it up between family members. Everybody has a place on the shelf where to keep their cans. They can drink it all in one day or spread it out, but that is all they get for the week.

As far as food...I have a 13yo boy. He has been known to inhale everything in the refrigerator within minutes. :p My 10year old usually fixes an afterschool snack and then might have popcorn or something around 8pm. They are both slightly underweight for their height, so I don't monitor them too closely.

Usually, yes he asks. But seeing how he's 3, he often thinks he's Mr. Independent and goes and helps himself (at least until we catch him :p ). Typically, he'll ask for permission to eat a snack that's not necessarily healthy, but not ask as much when it's something healthy, like cheese or fruit. :)
