Do your children "complain" about which resort?

Don't get me wrong, my kids love CBR, but I think they would be content to stay in a cardboard box on the side of the road if that was they only way they could go to WDW!

I agree with the earlier post, that in your son's case it's probably a familiarity thing. Kids hate change and are afraid of the uncertain. After this trip he probably won't want to stay anywhere but POR next time!

My boys love the Swan/Dolphin, but they're happy they're going at all, even if it's to the All Stars, poor dears. ;) Any fits at this age, and they'd be staying home in a MINUTE! ::yes::

when we went to Williamsburg this year rather than WDW, and tried to convince them and us that "it was just as nice and as much fun as Disney".

He has stayed at POR several times so he knows what it is like. I think ultimately he will be fine, or what choice does he have. hee hee.

As for DH not being able to stay at Values, I am not a Value gal but was going to stay there this trip to save a few $$. DH will have NO PART in staying at a value so Sage and I were going to stay the first part of the week and change so the real Mr. Picky wouldnt be upset. That's when I decided the $90.00 was worth it to stay put in one place.

Hmmmm. Maybe DS is getting this resort snobbery from daddy!

Hmmmmm. Did that work? LOL.

I am so glad I kept reading this as at firts I was afraid to respond feeling that I would be accused of being a stuffy old Grandma. My kids would NEVER have complained where they stayed as they knew they were darned lucky to even be there. I agree that if there is a dispute a discussion of money is in order. fewer days at a higher resort vs more days at All Stars etc comes to mind. Perhaps they wish to chip in some of their gift money or allowance $$ to help make up the difference. My folks used to take a friend on our vacations as I was an only child and 1/2 of what would have been spent on me went for my friend to help me not grow up with an entitlement attitude. I must commend most of you young moms on the way you are handling this. The gift to charity was a good one. The important thing is that you are away as a family. In 100 degree heat a pool is cool and wet. Whether it has a magical slide or not is really not the issue considering that you have just dropped $1000. on the child when so many NEVER get there at all. I would ask him how much the slide means to him. Is it more important than breakfast with Mickey. let him know we all must make choices. That is part of life.......:wave2: Thanks for letting a Gram of 6 spout off. I raised two as a single mom for much of the time and they both have tjheir Masters degrees. They did not suffer by having to make decisions. We would sit down and say.....Mom has an extra $5.00 this week. Do we go for ice cream and blow it or do we put it away for our trip? They chose and they lived with the choices.:wave2:

Wow 5 years old and stayed onsite 9 different times!!!!!
Grumbo, please forgive this for sounding like oneupsmanship, but our 6 year old daughter lucked into a parent trap of a total disney geek. She's had the pleasure of 46 on-site stays at WDW including every resort except the Boardwalk and Beach Club.

The day my son cries over which resort we are staying at is the day he learns he is staying with grandma and grandpa while we go on vacation.

Lucky girl she is! How many days do you stay each trip? Unfortunately I can only get away about 30 days a year so our trips cannot come close to yours! LOL! We go twice a year staying 12-15 days each trip. Anymore then that and I'd have to move to Florida. Then I would spend every weekend at a resort!

I don't think most of these younger kids have the slightest concept that these resorts necessarily cost more than another-- they just want their favorite because it is familiar.

This kind of started out as a humorous thread about kids who have strong opinions without the benefit of experience; let's not turn it into a moral parenting one-upsmanship.

I have a funny story about kids and resorts. My best friend and her DH took their daughter (then 3 ) to WDW for her first trip. Their flight got in late the first night so they stayed at a DTD hotel before moving to the Poly. So BF says that they have checked in at the Poly, are in the middle of the Magic Kingdom, DD is in her Alice dress, mouse ears, the whole nine yards and she keeps crying and asking "When are we going on 'bacation"?" Of course her Dad (who had to be convinced that a three year old wasn't too young for Disney anyway) is about to flip! So they take her back to the Poly for a nap. Anyway, after about three more days of "When are we going on bacation?" they finally figure out that by "bacation" she meant hotel they had stayed in the first night! I thought that was soooo cute. I told BF they could have saved a lot of money and just stayed home and spent a few nights at the Holiday Inn Express down the street if that's all she expected from "bacation."

OK, I had to look in the "Great Big Spreadsheet of Everything"... She has stayed 157 nights in those trips (an average of 3.4 nights per trip - indicating the long weekendedness of many of our trips.) We live in Miami, about 3.5 hour drive if traffic getting out of the city is reasonable, can be 4.5 hours if it is not. Her first on-site trip was in January 2000, right after her 2nd birthday. Prior to that, she made 4 trips in 1999, all off-site. Since then, we've only stayed off-site twice, both in 2000.

Her best year was 2001, 13 trips and 45 nights. Most of them at the All Stars (all the budget could handle then.)

OK, here's even more info (cutting and pasting, so it probably won't be pretty)

Resort Stays Nights
Dixie Landings 10 42
All Star Sports 9 22
All Star Music 5 12
All Star Movies 4 22
Coronado Springs 4 13
Polynesian 4 12
Caribbean Beach 3 5
Animal Kingdom Lodge 2 8
Old Key West 1 8
Wilderness Lodge 1 4
Port Orleans 1 4
Grand Floridian 1 3
Dolphin 1 2

Well sorry skiwee1 but I've decided that I can get more holidays being with gcurling. Adoption papers are in the mail.
Now I am glad we've progressed from those "Value places" ;)
Can we try and stick with Concierge.
I have my own spending money but can you provide the hoppers and meals.

Cheers,
Grumbo

I am planning my next trip, and am thinking Yacht or Beach Club to be closer to Epcot/MGM. Plus, I would like to try a different resort every time. My DS (he's 9) loved AKL too, and he's asked the same question! I think AKL is cheaper though, maybe I should listen to him.

:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsboy:

Well, I guess my dd, who is 3, is spoiled too! Her first trip to wdw, we stayed at akl, she was 2. Her third trip, 3 mos later, she was 3, we stayed in ft wilderness cabins, she loved both.

We are going back to WDW in Dec, I had originally booked the cabins, but dd complanined so much that she HAD to stay at the place with the animals on the balcony.....well, guess what , we are staying at AKL in DEC.......of course, we changed our ressie for the Princess!!

Don't worry all kinds are spoiled!!! :0)

Boy, I hope these children grow up to be independently wealthy or marry into the Rockefellers, because it will be difficult to maintain the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed!

I think that on our very first WDW trip I stayed at the old Travelodge Hotel (now the Best Western in DTD) and I was in hog heaven just to be near Mickey and away from home. All the subsequent trips with parents, band, etc. were off-site... Heck, I didn't even know there were on-site resorts until I started planning my honeymoon.

I really did mean this to be funny. I never thought a four year old would have such a strong opinion about where to stay. :) It looks like mine is not the only one.
