Do you worry about what people think?

After reading a couple of the posts on the DIS London Meet thread, it got me thinking that, although I am excited, I am quite nervous about the DIS meet on 12th March. I find it quite difficult to meet/make new friends and tend to over-compensate by being quite gobby when I first meet people  I have also been told that I can come across as quite 'hard', which isn't me at all.

So, do you worry about what people think of you? How do you cope with meeting new people? Is anyone else 'worried' about the DIS meet? Am I just being daft?

Don't worry Joh, you'll be fine, I'm quite gobby too so we should keep the conversation going for most of the day :lmao: :lmao: I also get very nervous before meeting people, so we're going to be a right pair together. I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone in the 'flesh' too. It should be a great day

Mandy :)

You two sound great as I can be really quiet when I first meet people so you can do all the talking!!

Mandy, as I'm going to the Swindon meet and you're going to the Northern one, if we can hear each other then that is proof positive that we're both really loud :rotfl2:

I'm kind of wishing I was going to the Northern meet now - you might make me seem quiet in comparison ;)

So, I'm the only one who worries what people think then :scratchin

I am not really nervous about going to the north dis meet  just think that as i'm going on my own i might end up on my lonesome! does this make sense :confused3 :scared:

Is it too late to back out? I was OK until I read about all you gobby people! ;)

I'm in a business development role and I have to meet new people all the time. I still get apprehensive, but I just reassure myself with the knowledge that most people are down to earth and that I invariably leave an appointment wondering what I was worrying about.

I'll be going to the Sheffield DIS meet on my own - as far as I know

I have a very convenient 'work head' that I put on when I'm nervous - just call me Worzel Gummidge :rotfl:

......might make me a bit 'gobby' too I guess :scratchin

Do I worry what people think of me?
I couldn't care less!!
Unfortunately being blessed with an ego the size of Texas EVERYONE loves me

I'm sure you will all be just fine.

Working as a counsellor I meet new people all the time. I still get nervous when I meet someone for the first time and sometimes I tell them that I am nervous, usually they are too. I find being myself works best.

I bet you will all have a fantastic time :goodvibes

I get really nervous when I meet new people too. I will probably change my outfit 5 times and then want to go home whilst on the way there. I'm just the same though, I end up chatting like an idiot but that's not like me at all.
We'll just look out for people who look like a nervous wreck when we get there, at least then we'll know who we are meeting :teeth:

Great attitude Carol.

I worry constantly and often read too much into it when people are just unorganised or thoughtless

Wish I could come to Swindon (Almost the only time I've thought that!) I'll aim to next year as DS will be older then and we'll either all come or DH can take the kids to visit his sister who lives locally

Joh - don't worry you come across lovely :goodvibes (do as I say not as I do!)

Hi Joh,
I was fine until I read Mandymouse might be there and then my heart started reacing a little :teeth: That would be like meeting DIS royalty. However, it was a misunderstanding all round. :hyper:
I think I'll be fine until I pull into the pub car park and then I will freak out. However bringing DD is my secret weapon because I will have to be normal for her sake. Don't worry Joh, we'll all be fine together, and of course we know we all have one major interest in common.

See you soon hun,
Claire xx :grouphug:

I do worry to an extent what people think, everyone wants to be liked :teeth:

When I meet new new people (ones I havnt seen or spoken to or DISed with ever) I do get the 'hard' bit, once me & the stanger know each other better they often refer to me as a bit 'standoffish' when we first met.

I am worried about the Northern Meet, but I am sure once the 'formal' introductions are out of they way we will be fine :goodvibes

:sunny:

Be afraid...very afraid! - LOL

:scared:

Just bring a sense a humour and beer money and you'll be just fine! :hyper:

Serously though, I've been to over a dozen or so meets up and down the country and rest assured you'll be fine - it's always interesting matching peoples "board persona" to real life.

i used to really worry about other peoples perseption of me but the older i get the less i seem to care :rotfl2:

i will be at the northern meet on my own as well :)

I'll probably have to catch you all up at Nando's as I'll have to drop DH and DD off at her party on the way :sunny:

So, whilst everyone else has done the groundbreaking 'getting to know you' bit, I'll be the 'Newbie'
