Do you wear gloves to handle raw meat?

If you do have to wear gloves to handle meat, wear food handlers gloves and not blue nitrile gloves. You'll save a lot of money.

My hubby is the cook of the house and wears gloves. He wears the latex type that are thrown away after each use. I think it is because he is use to them being a RN. Lol

:-)

I use disposable gloves any time I can't transfer/move food without a fork or tongs. I have eczema on my hands so my skin is usually cracked. I don't want raw food getting in there nor do I want to contaminate the food with my skin issue.

I do when making meatballs. I don't like the feel of ground up beef and sausage getting under my fingernails, so disposable gloves let me mix up the ingredients and roll them into balls without having that happen.

Other raw meat handling doesn't bother me, so no, I don't.

Never considered it and I would think it was a bit weird if a friend did it in front of me.

I always wear gloves when handling any raw meat. I wash my hands before and after, but I still wear gloves.

I use disposable gloves when handling raw meat. It's not because "I am afraid that every little germ is going to kill me", as a previous poster said, but it's simply that raw meat grosses me out and I'd rather not have to touch it. I'm a little on the squeamish side.

Also, it's very convenient to be able to slip out of the gloves and have clean hands to handle the cookware, etc.

My hubby is in the "that's weird" camp, but I think it's a cool idea and it is a matter of convenience and comfort for me. :thumbsup2

I don't wear gloves, but I wash my hands with warm water and soap after handling meat. I also use some kind of disinfectant on the counter-top.

I do because raw meat is gross plus my bare hands can't stand hot enough water to clean them thoroughly

I used to a long time ago. After some of the things I've had on my hands that came from my kids, the grossness of raw meat pales in comparison.

I have never worn gloves to handle raw meat. I try to use utensils for handling, but that's not possible when making meatballs or stuffing a turkey. I don't like the feel of raw meat, so I will probably consider using gloves for those instances. I never thought of it before reading this thread.

The only time I wear gloves when handling raw meat is when I have to mix up the ground beef, onions, peppers, eggs, and breadcrumbs for meatloaf. I hate having that sticky mess on my hands. I am okay with handling raw chicken, beef, and pork when cooking on the stove. I just wash my hands really good afterwards.

Nope no gloves just a good washing prior to and after handling the meat.

BTW, for those of you with issues getting your hands free of pepper residue and/or onion/garlic odors, here are a couple of simple remedies:

For peppers: the heat in peppers is in the oil, so you need to use oil to dissolve the residue so that you can wash it off. What I do is really slather my hands with rich hand lotion after handling peppers, leave it on for about 5 minutes, then wash thoroughly with dishwashing liquid; the pepper oil residue will be gone. (Cooking oil works equally well, but doesn't smell as nice when you have to leave it on your hands for 5 minutes.)

See, what I do is get in the shower and rub my eyes, nose, and all other sensitive body parts until I cry like a little girl.

I do remember my dad taking a pinch of raw ground beef and eating it every time my mom was about to cook it. But that was like in 1962 when they grocery store didn't have prepackaged ground beef, the butcher departments ground the beef to order while you watched.

I still buy rawhack from the butcher :thumbsup2
