I literally cannot count the times I've WANTED to go somewhere in pajamas, sweats, yoga pants, etc. I can never bring myself to do it for some reason. I see other people doing it, and I admire their comfort level and wish mine was the same!

Because you have class. Or at least an understanding of what is appropriate outer apparel.

Sweats and workout clothes aren't appropriate in public? I guess I have no class then. Oh well at least I'm comfortable.

Me too, I have no issue with sweat pants on the weekend, but then again I wear crocs too, because they are comfortable lol. I dress appropriately for work, just have no reason to dress nice all the time. I don't give a rip what people think of me, I am comfortable with my station in life:). Clothes don't make me, how I treat others makes me:)

I guess what I'm thinking is that there is a time and a place for everything. I can pretty much figure out that someone is on their way to the gym...hopefully not all stinky sweaty on their way home from the gym....if they're at the grocery store in sweats and workout clothes. And again, there's the style. A lot of the yoga pants and tops are cute on women (and the nice workout clothes for guys) but if they're ratty...to ME...that's a different story.

I just don't see what's so hard about putting on a pair of shorts and t-shirt before leaving your bedroom on a cruise.

But....everything changes. It used to be that people dressed up to fly.....suits, dresses, etc. And cruising used to be an ELEGANT thing.

I'm all for comfort, but I also think it's kind of sad that society is slowly slipping into .....I'm trying to think of a way to phrase it so as not to "offend" anyone......maybe I should just say "slipping".

I'm still stuck on people being upset that I used the word tacky.

I'm new...so help me out here....and this is kind of :offtopic:

I've read a lot of the threads here for a long time. If the debate about shorts in the dining room comes up, or smoking, or Carnival....for example.....no one seems to have any problem with tossing around words like "tacky", "low class", "stinky (smoke)", "drunks"........
So is it just a matter of which direction the finger is pointed in?? In other words, it's okay to use "harsh" words as long as they aren't being used against you...and you....and you.....:confused3

I think it is good that it is slipping. Everyone is dressing in a relatively similar manner. What you are describing is when you could tell someone's income based on their clothes. Personally I think that is just wrong and I like the way we are going. I don't like the wealthy that rub it in peoples faces, I have known many that are incredible people that don't feel that need.

That's interesting. So, if someone dresses nicely, that means they might be wealthy, and that they might be rubbing their wealth in other people's faces.

Or at least some less wealthy people may JUDGE them that way, anyway.

So therefore, everyone should dress the same, so that no one will JUDGE. Sounds like a very democratic way of solving a perceived problem.

Hmmm. Interesting.:scratchin

By the way.....I understood what you were saying, that you think judging like that would be wrong....I didn't miss your point there. I just think it's interesting.

I'm sorry that you are unhappy about being called out. I'm not going to rehash every debate in the forum to try and convince you of the points I made earlier.

Last post on this one for me. Feel free to have the last word.

I guess you aren't an early bird who lives with a light sleeper?

Especially on vacation, I think that sleeping in should be allowed when possible. However when one cabin resident wakes before others, it is often easiest to simply slip out of the room, without rustling around to change clothing. I don't think that it should be neccessary to awaken all the residents of ones cabin in order to satisfy someone else's opinion of whether the print on my clothing is appropriate for the public. Especially if the odds are that most of those who might be offended are still asleep!

My husband is the early bird. But I guess we're kind of OCD, because we lay our clothes out at night. He actually doesn't own any pajamas, so he really doesn't have a choice.......but he grabs his shorts and sandals, t-shirt and goes out the door.
The door makes more noise than he does, by the way.

I spend about 25k a year on vacations, and probably less than 1k on clothes for my whole family of four. I run 70+ miles a week plus work out in the gym. I love my workout clothes, I love shorts, and casual clothes. I live in tennis shoes. I'm happy with my body. I don't need fancy or expensive clothes to feel good about myself.

Nope. Wouldn't do it early morning at a resort just to run and get coffee either. I don't leave the house with lounge pants on at home, why would I do it on vacation??

Well, no, that's not exactly what I was getting at. I do not have a problem with other people wearing those items, and in fact I am envious at times that they are comfortable doing so. I don't believe it has anything to do with class.

I don't think it makes a difference WHAT you wear as pajamas...it's tacky.

I just don't see what's so hard about putting on a pair of shorts and t-shirt before leaving your bedroom on a cruise.

With all due respect, your first statement in this thread lumped EVERYONE, including those who wear shorts and t-shirts to bed. You basically said it doesn't matter what you wear (including t-shirts and shorts) as long as you wear it to bed and consider it your pajamas, it's tacky. Then you go on to say that's acceptable. Which is it? :confused3

I'm still stuck on people being upset that I used the word tacky.

We've all been new here at one point. We've all had to learn the ropes. Surely you've heard of the saying, "you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar." If you were to walk into a room full of people you're not familiar with in real life calling people tacky, and insinuating others as lacking class, simply because they don't live by your standards, you'd be foolish to think you would not get some sort of backlash. Why would you expect any different on a message board? Do you honestly think you'd change anyone's minds by shaming them? It may be easy to throw words around on the Internet because you're not seeing people face to face, but behind these texts and pixels are real people with real feelings.

Good luck to you and I wish you well.

Who said anything about needing fancy or expensive clothes? I didn't.

I have seen a few people in the last morning in pjs - when they have packed everything the night before. I have also been part of disboards meets where they have arranged to meet at breakfast in pjs. Nor for me though - although funnily enough I bought a Mickey Mouse onesie today!

I do so want to know where did you get the Mickey onesie? I would love, love, love to get them.

For the poll I and DH never have.
My DS, 5 at time, has worn his more formal set of PJ's to breakfast as a family tradition for the New Year. Silly but it supposed to be good luck to wear something new on New Year's Day and I forgot something new for him. So we happened to bring his new formal Mickey PJs he got or Christmas and that was his something new. The CMs were great about it and made a fuss how formal he actually looked down to his matching slippers. He loved it.

Not sure why you are dragging politics into it, which is a joke and most likely flat out wrong. I just dislike flashy life of the party people, I am an introvert so that is most of the reason. Where I grew up we had both old and new money and I liked one group and not the other. I generally like down to earth people from all walks of life. My point is don't judge a book by its cover, and by the way I own an 80$ pair of sweats, so those are classy right lol;). Some of my hobbies I have had for 30 plus years have me mixing with folks from all walks of life which has been pretty cool.

I just have never understood the must dress nice outside of work and DCL suppers philosophy, I do dress nicely for suppers on DCL, meaning dress pants and collared shirts.

Also I started reading where I posted so if I caught your comments in a bad spot my bad and I apologize for that. Also apologize if response drifted into off topic land.

I'm in the younger generation at 21. I don't wear my swimsuit on board because I don't like to swim in those small pools so I will wake up and get dressed in a casual nice outfit until it's time to change for dinner then after dinner I will put on a work out outfit if I'm going up to the deck or going out for a run BUT if I'm going to the late movie/just going to roam around the ship/deliver FEs I will put on my fuzzy pj pants and a hoodie and will drag along my Rapunzel blanket because the movie theater is freeing (I bring a specific pair for this purpose I will change again when I actually go to bed.)

Any time other then this I'll be dressed up, unlike everyone else at my university I will not go to class in work out clothes or sweats I'm always dressed up but at night when I'm winding down I like to be comfy so I have no problems walking around in them then.

So I see both sides and don't see anything wrong with it and def won't give you a second glance if you choose to be in PJs all day because chances are if you see the way I dress in "causal normal clothes" I'm likely to get more judgment then my toned down PJs anyway lol
