Do you use resort pools in winter?

I know that they stay open and that technically you "can". But, do people typically use them in the winter? Does the water stay warm enough to enjoy the pools or is it just for the bravest? Thinking of staying at BCR in the winter and we love SOB. But, I don't know how "useable" the resort pool would be.

Yes people do.The water is heated , but depending how cold the air is, that walk back to the room or the time above water ca be unpleasant.For us,I won't swim below 70 degrees ( but that is me).I have seen people in the pool ( not many) when I was wearing a coat and gloves because it was 40 degrees outside.I have had weather in the high 70's-80's and 30-40's all in the same week.

I was at Disney in December and it was cold. That didn't seem to stop kids from using the pool at all. Me? I didn't go near the pools. Now there are always the hot tubs for people like me, but I won't brave the pools.

All the resort pools at WDW are heated. However don't expect a 90+ degree pool. Going swimming in the winter really depends on your tolerance and the actual temperatures that day.

No its not usually freezing cold in January. But it can be. Nobody can tell you what its going to be when you visit - forecasts just can't be accurate that far ahead. You may get 80 degree days. You may get 40 degree days.

DH and myself visited the last week in February and the one day thought we would try the pool. The temperature during our stays was around 80 degrees each day so we figured the pool would be ok and they are supposed to be heated, well it was to cold for us! We got in and got right out and went over to the hot tubs . There were some other people, but mostly kids in the pool so guess it doesnt bother some people, but it was to cold for us.

We have tried to use the pools in the winter (when we usually visit) but it seems like every time we visit in the winter months, there is a cold snap with record breaking lows. It actually hit freezing a few years back when we stayed at the Contemporary. So we've only gotten to use the pool on one winter trip (Feb) to All Star Music. Yes the pool is heated, but it's not bath-water warm. In fact I would have thought it a bit cold however water was warmer than the air (60s). Getting out was really chilly though.

I'm actually looking to our trip this weekend partly because we get to use a pool and it will be refreshing!

When we visited in Jan. 07 my son used the pool and his lips were blue with in 15 mins didn't stop him though

This year we will make our first trip in December and are stay at AoA so I really want to check out "Big Blue"

There's always people at the pools in the winter, mostly kids. I don't think some kids every get cold!! My family doesn't use the pools in the winter. Just too cold for us. It really depends on each person's concept of cold.

It was one cold winter in December. We stayed at WL and used the pool. The air was cold, but the pool was warm. You can see the steam off the water. We enjoyed our swim. We were actually going back and forth to the hot tub. We had a nice time.

We did on our February trip to the Poly. It was about 75 every day so the pool was comfortable. The evenings were too chilly for me though. The pool would have been fine, but I didn't want to get out of the pool in the cold air and walk back to the room. So we stuck to using the pool in the afternoons.

Your head still feels cold even if your body is warm under the water. My advice - try it and make sure you bring some really big towels or a big fluffy robe to cover up on the way back to the room. That is the worst!

We go in December and swim most nights after the parks.
The winter of 2010 was very cold and we still swam a few nights.

My family has swum in the AKL pool on Christmas Eve.

That day was fairly warm. It totally depends upon what the weather is like that day. It could be 50 degrees. It could be 80 degrees.

We've gone down the last three Februaries and have swum each time. The past two years temps were consistently in the high 70s/low 80s the entire week. I think it depends on where you're coming from. I'm from New England, so in the middle of the winter, even 60 can feel really nice!

I live in Buffalo so Florida in January was heavenly to me. I did use the pool and when you were in the pool it was comfortable, but when I got out I was uncomfortably cold. This was during the mid morning. I'm sure at the height of the afternoon when it was in the high 70's I would have been perfectly comfortable.

You can definitely use the resort pools in January. The water will be heated. The worst thing may be getting from the pool back to your resort room while you are wet!! We are from Wisconsin, and have swam during the winter months. There was one time we were swimming, and the people sitting around the pool were wearing winter jackets. The water is quite warm. It is the process of getting back to your room that can be chilly!!

We went in mid Feb 2005 and stayed at the Polynesian. The water was cold, kids lips turned blue and I think we maybe lasted 1/2 hour.

We went to the Pop Century mid January 2011 and the kids lasted 5 minutes. On our first day at the Pop, on our way to our room after checking in, the lifeguard was in snowpants, a winter coat, mittens and a face mask hat. It was hilarious since we come from Wisconsin. I think it was about 60 degrees. Chilly because it was overcast, but wow, that was so funny. We had to get a picture of that. Imagine someone struggling in the water and the lifeguard jumps in to save them. The lifeguard might have sunk with all those clothes on, lol.
