Do you use points to stay weekends?

I sort of screwed up our reservations for this past Xmas/New Year for the family. Aside from other factors, one of the reasons I rented out our own reservations at the Boardwalk was because I did not want to move while I had a hard time swallowing the high weekend pts during the holiday season. We ended up staying at Swan which I really regretted. Every time I went by BWV, I felt bad and wish I had kept the rooms for ourselves.

Now come the upcoming April, we are staying at WLV and currently have a reservation for a 2-br for 5 nights with a member discount cash reservation for the 6th night. The last night would have cost me 75 pts.

I feel that even with the member discount, the room will still come to almost $600 and it could be for 2 rooms at another resort, probably with concierge service with the AP rate. While I still don't want to move.

I know there are many people who stay through the weekends while there are a bunch of you who don't. Do you feel it is a real let down to move out of the 2-br and go somewhere else?

Do you just bite the bullet and stay through the weekends? Does a night really make that much difference to pay to the hilt?

I got a really bad flu while at Disney during this past trip and missed out on NYE completely at Epcot. I am thinking about going again next year, but looking at the NYE, a weekend night, a 2-br is 106pts!!!

How do you justify this or do you just move out?

We used to try to go to Universal for the weekends. But my kids are still too young and when we stayed there during the Xmas time at Portofino, all of us wanted to go back to Disney!!!!

We have been members since '97 and have never used points for a weekend night. We really enjoy trying some of the other WDW resorts so weekend stays really work for us. We usually have a 2BR at our DVC resort and have had no problems moving to a regular room for the last two nights. Actually, we usually stay for two weeks with the weekend in the middle spent at a non-DVC resort, surrounded by 2 5-night stays in a 2BR.

I just cannot bring myself to pay those high weekend points and since we don't mind moving it really works to our advantage...although I know many others who are perfectly happy to do the opposite.

Not only do we use points for one weekend, we use them for two. Because we don't want to pull the kids out of school for to long, but we want our vacation to be as long as possible, we leave Friday right after school and stay until the following Sunday. So we are there both weekends and we get a 9 night vacation with only having to pull the kids out of school for 5 days. We also get a 2 Bedroom and it does cost a lot of points, but we think it is worth it. We tried moving a few times and although Disney does make it as easy as possible, I still feel it wastes too much of my Vacation and I feel the whole time I am somewhere else that I would rather be in my 2 bedroom villa. So we ended up buying more points so we could stay put in our 2 bedroom the whole time.

We use points for weekends. When we bought both contracts, we figured out the points needed for the size unit and length of our normal trip. I'm on vacation and can not be bothered by moving.

Hi again, yikes, when you looked up at the boardwalk you were probrably looking right at us, we had the Swan right in front of us (5006). I just read your post and seen your regrets, at first I wasn't going to post for we did have a great time and I was thinking of you because I knew you were going at x-mas/NY's.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi, we did take a walk over to the swan, thought it was beautiful, but I here the rooms are not that great.

Happy New Year

Good question. A lot will depend of course on whether making a move is a big deal or not. To some it will be, to some it won't. So I think the first question to ask yourself is, "How big of a deal is it to move?"
Now we only have 1 DVC trip under our belt with another planned for later this week (yipeee!!!) but both times we made the decision to kinda split the difference. Since we aren't arriving until Friday evening we'll stay at Pop Century with an AP rate for that Friday night then move into BCV Saturday morning. That works for us since most of the time the weekend will fall at the beginning of our trip. Your mileage may vary however.

I'm going to try paying cash for a Sat. night in December and see how it works, as far as stretching points. This March, I reserved a studio for a Friday night late arrival, moving to a one-bedroom the following morning, in an attempt to conserve points. It's moving but within the same building, so that shouldn't be too bad.
