Inspired by the Clark Griswold thread, I couldn't help but wonder just how many people actually do use outside lighting at Christmas time.
We don't. I'm not against them, I'm just against the effort required to put them up.
What about you?

I'm actually against the effort to put them up, as well. :rotfl2: I decorate the whole inside of the house, do all the shopping, the wrapping, the baking--I have no energy for outside lights. DH did decide to hang some this year for the first time--not a lot, a few strands along the front. It does look very pretty, especially with the Christmas tree framed in the front window.

So, as long as someone else does it, I'm all for it!

I voted no. We use to put them up year after year, but we live in a VERY windy neighborhood (we've been named Hurricane Alley) and every year my DH would have to replace bulb after bulb. So for the past few years, he's decided not to put them up. But we LOVE to drive around and see everyone else's lights.

We have a few shrubs out in front of our house that we put white lights on. Basically they line the front of the house. We also have a lighted wreath on the side of the house. There were a few years where my stepdad put those awful icicle lights along our roofline. They just did not look good on our house

We live in a townhome. I use those "netting" lights and just drape them over all the azalea bushes...takes 5 minutes.

If we lived in a well populated area I would, but since we live in the "boonies" (with probably 2 cars a night passing by)no one but the nocturnal critters would see it ...

I love having snowflake lights of all types up in the winter. They don't have to be shut off after Christmas and they make the long winter darkness so much easier to bear!

Sung to the tune of the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations":

I'm putting up decorations
They're draining the power station
These classical light formations
Imported from third-world nations...

Lights, wreaths, reindeer, big blow up animal merry go round, light up candy canes, all sorts of stuff. My DS (3) LOVES it. My DH says it looks like the North Pole exploded on our house (even though he did 90% of it...LOL!), we all love it. :)

I put a couple on the pillars outside but that was it.

We put some out. More than some, but less then a ton. We took the multi colored mini lights and strung them on the bushes under the windows out front, then wraped them up and down the porch columns, and around the wreath that hangs on the porch roof. Looks really nice, if I do say so myself. Only no one notices our house, the Griswalds live next door to us!

After Christmas this year I'm thinking of going to the store and buying Christmas lights for next year. They'll be what, 50% off? :confused3

Yes, if you can find them. The stores near me are already sold out of the more popular kind, like the multi color strings and the clear strings. Worth looking though, just get to your store of choice right when it opens Dec. 26.

We have a moderate amount of lights, We're not the griswalds but its more than a couple of strands! 5 small bushes under front windows each have a different colored We have Lighted Candy Canes and Spiral Christmas Trees, 2 Multicolor Lit Wreaths on each side of the front door, A blow up carousel and a Blow Up Snow Globe, A Hard Plastic Santa and Mrs. Clause and a Small Hard Plastic Nativity.

The Griswalds live down the block, amazing display, LOL! the rest of the block must be dead because NO ONE else has anything up. There are a few menhorrahs in the windows.

We don't have any strands of lights on the house or bushes. We have our lawn "people" that we light up each year - a drummer, 2 angels playing trumpets, a waving Santa Claus, and a multi-colored tree. I love watching the lights almost as much as our dogs do. They sit for hours at the window staring at them.
:santa:
