Had it on this morning, the one with music and cute little animals, even had a little piggy.

Sounds like the one on Hallmark Movie Channel - that's what we (Sis & I) had on while doing presents, prepping turkey, etc. it's a nice tree-and-fireplace scene with mostly puppies and kittens, but then at some point while we were cleaning up, my sister looked at the screen and said, "Is that a pig?!" and yes, there was a little piglet sleeping in the pet bed in front of the fire.

I didn't check it out this year, but last year Animal Planet had something with all sorts of "cute animals."

I don't understand what having a fireplace has to do with not having the yule log on. It's not like people actually sit and stare at the TV while it's on. The point of it is for Christmas music with a festive background. The yule log has been on TV since 1966. We had it on the TV above the gas fireplace and at some point had a fire going.

Haven’t seen it in many, many years but it was a tradition of my childhood. Growing up, we always had it on while opening presents on Christmas morning.

The televised Yule log originated in the NYC area in the 1960’s, on local channel 11, WPIX. The burning log was filmed in a fireplace at Gracie Mansion, the residence of the Mayor of the city of New York.

I did not realize that versions of it are now shown in other markets around the US. To me, it’s a nostalgic memory of a simpler time, back when we had only 6 tv channels.

My answer is no. In fact, I only had the TV on before turning in yesterday to watch my DVR recordings of that day's Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives. I would probably have put the Yule log on if I had remembered it and could find it easily.

Sometimes. It's not a special tradition to us or anything, but I think they're a neat idea.

Yes - every year. I absolutely LOVE it! I HATE real fireplaces, but I love this thing :)

Our niece and her husband had hoped to have their new gas insert installed in time for Christmas, but it didn't quite make it, so they put a TV in the firebox and it turned out really fun for a temporary fix!

On Christmas Eve we do. Christmas Day I'm usually watching the Disney Parade which I forgot about this year. We don't normally have the TV on during the day since I'm busy doing other stuff.

This year I can't do much but I was reading one of my Disney books that I got for Christmas so I could've had the TV Yule Log on. One of our cats really logs the TV Yule Log with the cats - she gets right up to the TV and watches it.

We have a fireplace we could use but it's not cold enough for that.

I recall last year they had relocated that original Yule log tape and were going to show it. I think it was the fiftieth anniversary. Otherwise they had shown that original for a few years only, replacing it with a newer version filmed in CA in 1970. I thought I had heard the original footage was going to be shown again this year, but am not sure if they ever did.

I grew up in NYC also and we would have the yule log on at some point. This past Christmas we did not have it on but we at least thought about the yule log. I had no idea there were so many different ones. Would loved to have seen the one with the puppies.

Didn't have the yule log per se (no music). Did have the crackling fireplace on the tv. My mother kept asking if we could roast marshmallows on it. I told her if it was hot enough to roast marshmallows, we were in trouble. We did use to have the wpix yule log up on Christmas mornings years ago.

Not this year. We had the Disney Holiday special on Christmas morning and then just played the Christmas music channel after that. Our Yule log channel has played Christmas music in the past but this year it didn’t so we didn’t turn it on.

On Christmas? No.

For my family we go over to my aunt's and usually what is on is NBA but honestly most everyone is scattered throughout the main level of the house talking, etc. For my husband's family we go for breakfast and open up gifts then we leave to go to my family. Eventually went end up back at the in-law's place for dinner but usually a football game eventually gets put on if it's between teams they like or we'll put on youtube videos or play board games, etc.

However, for the winter season my husband and I found an Amazon prime real log burning in real time video (it's over 1hr in time) that we absolutely love last year. We find ourselves when playing a board game or just relaxing on the couch putting on the video which has Christmas music melodies playing along with the crackling fire (no lyrics just instrumental music).

We tried putting that video on when we had my husband's father, his girlfriend and her son along with my husband's sister and her boyfriend over for dinner. It lasted about 15minutes before my husband's dad was like "can we put on basketball?"..not going to lie I was sorta disappointed as I didn't want to watch sports I wanted a more relaxing night but *sigh*.

Yep, we usually have it on when we are unwrapping presents. It is too warm for a real fire anyway (that and we don't have a fireplace in our home, LOL). So we enjoy having the yule log in the background with the Christmas music.

If we are home for Christmas, it is just for a few hours first thing in the morning anyway, then off to my Dad's and then my Mom's houses for the rest of the day.

We did this year even though we have a real fireplace. 5 of our 9 grandchildren are 2 and under and we didn't want to worry about them getting hurt.
