Do you tip the maid, and how much?

This will be my first DVC vacation and I'm not sure what the tipping etiquette is for trash and towel service.

When we stayed cash I always did a dollar per day per person plus one. So with four of us in a room it would $5/day left for the maid. But what do we do with Trash and Towel service, is it covered it dues? Do we leave like $20 all at once?

I tip about the same way as you stated. Two dollars per person per day, when not staying at a DVC for mousekeeping. When were staying in a DVC, depending on the number of people I wil tip between $5-$10 on T&T. For us it's mostly just "Towel Day" pick-up and drop off. Note; That we take our trash to the trash room. I like the noise it creates on the way down.

Then we tip on our last day.

We were there 2 nights in a studio (so no T&T service) we tipped $5 to $6 (can't remember which) when we checked out. We left it pretty clean, though, but did have a bunch of trash (we have a toddler).

At WDW the Mousekeepers is officially a non tipped position and they are paid a higher wage. That being said, many still tip for various personal reasons. We don't tip the Mousekeepers unless they provide a service that was above and beyond their normal duties.

IMO tipping for mediocre service has become too common place and the service personal have come to expect it.

I agree with you on that. I am sure it's bad luck but in the last 3 DVC stays we haven't had any of those extras like towels animals. We also take our own trash down every day (we have 2 toddlers!) I sometimes tip $5 on the T/T day...depends if there is anything for them to do. I think we will have full housekeeping this next trip so I will still only tip $5. Honestly..when it comes to T/T day there isn't anything they really need to do since we try to use the same towels all week and take our pool towels back down ourselves.

I have heard that the mousekeeping staff isn't supposed to keep the tips (whether they pocket them or not is unknown) but that they're supposed to put them in a community "bank" between all of the mousekeeping staff for that resort to be used for some kind of pizza party or something. Again, a rumor, not sure of the accuracy.

And actually, we ask to have no housekeeping furing our visit.

I have a friend who is a Mousekeeper at the Wilderness Lodge and can tell you with certainty that it is not considered a tipped position, but if any guest chooses to leave something for them, they are welcome to take the money with them as their own.

Last year the service we had on T&T day was better than what we got on the day of full cleaning!
I can't remember if we put more money in the envelope for full cleaning or not. At any rate, we tip about the same for T&T as we do for a normal housekeeping visit in a hotel room.

We just got back today.....before the storms. We stayed at BLT and had TT twice in 7 days, is that the norm now? We left $10.00 as we exited at 3:30AM!!!

Before DVC, we always tipped $5.00/day.

Once we joined DVC, we don't tip anymore. Half the time, we are overlooked on our T & T day, and items are always forgotten during our full cleaning.

We actually now prefer, to not have Mousekeeping enter our room at all & just ask that they leave the items right inside or outside our door.

We have never tiped when we stay. We had 2 or 3 different people clean the room. Some did great and some not. If we leave the money don't know who would get it.

We leave our 'do not disturb' sign out most of our trip, as we prefer not to be bothered for Trash and Towel. However, for a full cleaning we tip $5.00 for a studio, $10.00 for a one bedroom. We haven't stayed in larger units yet, so I can't comment on those.

My feeling is that housekeeping may not be a 'tipped' position but they aren't payed all that well and if I can make their day a little brighter by leaving a tip, then it's worth it. They work very hard and I just prefer to leave them a few $$.

I don't think there's a right or wrong in tipping housekeeping, it's up to each individual and what they're comfortable with.

When staying on Cash Reservation $5.00 a day. DVC T&T day well depends on if we have DGC or Teens with us...Usually $5.00-$10.00....But having an "ownership" interests we impress upon our children to treat it as our house and keep it clean and taken care of and IF staying outside of SSR I remind our kids we are only "Borrowing" someone else's property and to be respectfull of it so we usually keep it pretty tidey...Shawn

Our last stay(which was our 1st dvc stay) we did a split stay between a 1bdrm at Kidani to a GV at Jambo. We didn't tip for the 1bdrm as we only used it for 2 nights and there was almost nothing to clean. We took out our own garbage, left no dishes, etc.. Now in the GV we did tip at the end of the trip. When we arrived there were almost a dozen little towel mice which apparently got replaced on T&T day because my kids ripped almost all of them apart and there they were when we got back on that day lol. They also had a waaaay bigger space to cover. They replaced all soaps, emptied the dishwasher, cleaned EVERYTHING, I think they might have even vacuumed to be honest. It was just so much cleaner then when we left LOL. Due to the level of cleaning they did on that day and the cleaning after we left we did leave a tip.
