Do you tip Mousekeeping?

We do tip, however, we found a moldy leftover coffee filter with old coffee grounds in it on day 3 when my husband didn't feel like walking to the snack bar for coffee...ewww. God only knows how long it had been there.

Because we didn't know whose fault it was we continued to tip. I am not perfect and I am sure the housekeeping staff are not either. Besides that, they did a fine job...but they forgot the towel animals....

We almost always tip housekeeping any time we stay at a hotel. Saying they make more than minimum wage is not saying a whole lot and the extra tip money is probably appreciated by most. I am happy to leave a few dollars a day for someone cleaning my toilets and vacumming my kdis crumbs off the floor.

While it is not considered a tipped position and I do not feel I should have to, we do leave a small tip each day.

I do not care if others tip or not, that is their choice.

I do not know you so I will not assume anything about you, but judging somebody by a fake username (handle) is a bit much. Your title might indicate to me that you are a trouble-maker, but I bet you would tell me that is not the case. KWIM?

I've never tipped mousekeeping...and have never really thought about it, to be honest.

A waiter/waitress...yes...mousekeeping? Um....no...

Here are some tipping guidelines furnished by my company to our staff who all travel a great deal.

Waiter/waitress
15% to 20% of the pre-tax bill. If your party is large or placing many special requests, you should increase your tip. Check the bill carefully though since many restaurants include a gratuity in the bill for larger groups.

Bartender
$1 to $2 per drink or up to 15% of tab

Room service
15% to 20% of bill (if not already included). Most hotels add the gratuity to your bill automatically, so be sure to check your bill when the food is delivered. If the gratuity is already on the bill, there is no need to tip more, unless it is a token amount for special service.

Valet parking
$2 to $3 when car is returned

Taxi driver
15% to 20% but may vary with the length of the ride (longer ride, tip on the low side)

Hotel doorman
$1 to $2 to hail cab; $1 to $2 per bag for help with luggage

Hotel bellman
$2-$3 per bag for delivering to your room; $1 to $2 per bag for retrieving from storage

Housekeeping
$2-$3 per night, clearly marked 'Housekeeping'. The tip should be left daily rather than at the end of your stay. Some hotels, mainly resorts, are including a separate fee on the bill for housekeeping. If so, reduce your tips accordingly

Skycap
$1 to $2 per bag in addition to any mandatory fee

Hotel delivery
Depending on the number and size of the boxes, usually $5-$10

Hotel Concierge
Concierges generally don’t expect tips for directions or restaurant recommendations. However, if they assist with tickets or hard-to-get reservations $5 is appropriate.

We have on occasion. Usually at the end of the trip.

We used to tip on the last day, until our friend, the hotel manager at a very large, famous hotel in NYC, told us that it was better to leave a little each day, as the same housekeeper may not be cleaning your room each day. Now we leave $3-5 a day, in a envelope, or folded in a piece of paper marked "Housekeeping - Thank you!" I always ask for an extra pillow or two, and an extra towels, so I feel they deserve it. And I always straighten up a bit before we leave for the day - all the dirty towels in one pile in the bathroom, things put away...

If there was a separate fee on my bill for Housekeeping I would not reduce my tip, I would remove it.

We print out "Thank you Mousekeeping!" envelopes with Disney graphics before we leave and then just leave 1 on the table when we go to the parks every morning!

I have never tipped for housekeeping and felt bad when I first read a thread about leaving tips!
I have my thank you envelopes and tips made for this next trip in June!

First, the standard in the housekeeping industry is 10 -12 rooms in an 8 hour day....and we know Disney isn't going to pay a penny of overtime. Housekeeping is a dirty-dirty business......yes, they make beds and clean bathrooms, they pickup after your children but they also, on occassion, pickup discarded items of personal hygene....and other items which are just too icky to describe here. Ask me how I know....I DID it in my much younger days! PM me and I'll give you a better idea of what a typical housekeeper finds in a career!

Now, lets say half of their rooms tip $5 (which is probably above average). That means they will leave at the end of their day which a whopping $30 on top of their minimum wage $6.78 p/hour wage. WOO HOO That's not enough to fill up their car with gas!

My DH and I feel ia $5 tip daily to the mousekeeper is a very small percentage of our room cost but a much bigger percentage to the hard-working mousekeeper. If it means they can afford to take their family to a movie on the weekend...or maybe buy and extra gallon of milk for their children....it makes us happy to help.

I agree with you. My family has been in the cleaning business for 20+YRS and i feel the same as you.

I make "MOUSEKEEPING" envelopes before we leave. They usually have a Disney type sticker and say MOUSEKEEPING, with $3 placed inside for each day and then usually $5 on the last night. I usually also say something like "thanks for keeping our room freshened" on the outside/ back. NO rhyme or reason, just what we do!

Somehow I'm not buying this one.......

If by some slim chance it is true I think it is really cruel to "toy" with somebody when it comes to tips they count on as a thank you for the pride they take in their work.

Our first tip we tipped everyday our last trip I wasn't happy with mouse keeping. My husband has this thing were he leaves something on the floor and then we come back and check it it is still there well it was 6 days in a row. So we didn't tip I even asked for towel animals to bring home to the kids they put them up in their bathroom and we didn't get any I even left a note with a 20 dollar bill money was gone but not was still there so it depends what we do on how clean our room is.

We always tip the "mousekeepers" (and housekeepers at non-disney hotels)and have always great service. We did have some fun with our housekeeper on our trip last fall. DH left $5.00 the first two days and she (the same one each day!) kept us well supplied with towels, extra soap, shampoo, coffee, etc. On the third day he left $10 and she brought us extra pillows, three towel animals, lots more coffee (definitely a plus with us!), enough towels to dry the multitudes and a sweet little thank you note. We were so tickled that he continues with $10 for the last two days and when we were loading the car to check out on our last day she caught up with us and gave us a hug! Now that and an imacculate room each day was the greatest and worth every penny!
