Do you tip Mousekeeping?

This is a very interesting thread. I can see both sides of this. We stay at a rental home, only using hotels for one night down and one night back. I think I would only tip for service that has gone above and beyond what is standard and expected. When DH and I were first married he had a job pumping gas. He was paid minimum wage and did not get tips and he was out in all kinds of weather (No fancy awnings like they have now). It was his choice for a job and he worked there till something better came up.

OK, I'll admit it. We never tipped at a hotel/motel until Disney, and that's mainly because we like to get towel animals and other little special things!

Unfortunately, our strategy has never worked at a deluxe resort.

Luckily, we've always gotten towel animals or other special treatment at value resorts.

I too used only tip at Disney because of the extra perks they do for you. I happen to love extra coffee and cups (i bring it home) and they give it to me. Of course the towel animals are adorable too! However we had to make a trip to Kansas recently and the motel (which was a 1 star hotel at best) provided tipping envelopes! I was shocked and irrated that they would expect a tip. I get my own tip envelopes ready with two dollars in each one and mark it with "housekeeping" before I even leave home for WDW. That way each morning I just pull one out and sent it out. I won't forget so easily that way. We were told many years ago that Disney has lots of benefits but the pay isn't that outstanding. Come to think of it---I don't think any of us make enough money! HA! HA!

imo when you are staying at Disney the cast members go out of their way to make our stay magical. so is it that difficult to do a little something to make their job magical. You don't have to leave a huge amount just a little something to show that you appreciate coming back to a clean room everyday. I love being happy and to make others happy too. After all it is "The Happiest Place on Earth"

I guess everyone has their own view on manners.... mine is keeping the room neat and tidy. NOT being a pig, being respectful of thier job and not creating a lot of work. So in the end I don't tip with $$ but with a clean, easy room. That's what I call manners.
When I worked as a chambermaid, I much rathered a respectful guest who kept their room tidy and not receive a tip. After all, I was ONLY doing MY job. My job wasn't to be pig control, free for all on their vacation. Some people are messy slobs and those are the ones I disliked, not the ones who didn't tip.

I'm not stiffing the help, they are doing their job. No one ever tipped me when I was a cm, no one tips my husband on his job. I'm respectful, neat, and nice to the folks who clean our room. We chat and I always thank them for the job well done. I'm guess I'm getting tired of reading that those who don't tip are 'low'... not the case, at all.

dizneydiva...you are so 100% right...leaving a room neat and tidy-not trashed is a great respect to the housestaff and the hotel too. As a former hotel owner..it would disgust me to see a room totally trashed, and those guests were put on a no return list, and inturn it would easily take 3 times the lenght of time to clean. This could mean someone might be waiting for a room. So you can thank people like DisneyDiva(and there are many of you out there)for speeding up room turnover.

Tipping of mousekeeping is a personal decision, and each of us is free to make our own choice. I tip mousekeeping but it is $5 a day (and for me) I know that many times people cleaning hotel rooms are living at standards that we would never think of, or are supporting family members in other difficult circumstances. If you don't tip...that is fine..your choice.

It's like, I don't feel bad for not tipping at Bruggers, Dunkin Doughnuts, etc...where I feel tipping does not belong, but other people do tip..and that is their choice.
