Do you tip at Sonic?

I enjoy the tater tots, corn dogs, cheeseburgers, chicken fingers, cherry limeade...

Hmm, I think I like almost everything at Sonic! :)

I tip at Sonic. They are bringing it out to my car...that's a service I'll GLADLY tip for!

Well, you guys will be pleased to know that I tipped my waitress at Sonic today. I paid with my debit card, so I just gave her cash for the tip.

LOL, the funny thing is that she had forgotten to return my debit card to me...and chased me down in the parking lot to give it back. I don't know that she would have done that if she thought I stiffed her.

I'm still left wondering though...if they expected you to tip the carhops, why don't they leave a place for a tip on their slips?

OK, and here's another question: I often visit a deli that has counter service where they give you a number and bring the food out for you. When I pay with my debit card, there IS a space for a tip, which I do not leave...because the counter worker is not the one who brings out the food. I always leave a dollar on the table for the person who brings the food and busses the table, but I'm wondering why they do that with their system--are THEY expecting a tip for the counter worker?

I don't, no. I don't tip the girl at Jack in the Box who brings my food to me when it's going to take awhile and they ask me to pull around and wait. I don't tip the guy at Subway who makes my sandwich. I don't tip the girl at Backyard Burger who brings me my order and often stops by later to get my trash. So why tip the person at Sonic? All the Sonic people around here at paid $6-$7 an hour. They'd be making twice what I am making if everyone tipped! Plus I often use the drivethrough and certainly won't tip for a drivethrough. I'm not even sure why someone who walks out the door and right to my window all of a sudden earned an extra $2 from me... who started the "tip at Sonic" thing anyways?

We never ever eat it there and I usually drive through if they have one or pull up right outside the door so they don't have to walk far. DH always says "how else am I going to get my food if they don't bring it to me?" LOL

I think their food is pretty expensive for what it is, too.

So that's my long answer!

I only tip at Sonic if they are wearing skates! There are two people at the Sonic near me that I've seen on skates. :)

I worked at a place similar to what you're describing in college. I took orders and never expected a tip. Our CC receipt had a place for tip, but that was mainly for the catering part of the deli. If money was left on the table, the bussers kept the money.

Ok, so what about in this situation? We have a local BBQ place around here. You go to a counter, order your meal, and they give you a number. You go sit down and they bring your food out on a tray. You get your own drinks. When you're done, you clean up your own tray. Tip, or no tip? We haven't been, but after reading some stuff on here, maybe we should be? :confused3
