Another SAG strike?

The biggest actor's union, SAG, met with reps of the media moguls again on Thursday.

And, no surprise, there's still no resolution!

SAG rejected the offer the suits put on the table Thursday.

Reps for the major studios again insisted the deal was their last.

"We made it clear our final is our final and that we're not interested in further counterproposals," said Jesse Hiestand, a spokesman for the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

SAG continued to claim it was willing to negotiate and presented a counterproposal despite the titans' stance.

SAG's chief negotiator said the guild made a "comprehensive counterproposal that adopted some of their proposals and offered alternatives on others."

The union's reps are scheduled to meet today, Friday, to discuss the situation and said they will contact the studios' alliance later in the day.

AMPTP claims SAG was "unreasonably" seeking more than other unions.

SAG is seeking greater compensation for DVDs, something neither writers, directors nor a smaller actors union could secure in negotiations.

SAG also wants more say for actors when they are asked to endorse products in scripted shows.

Will SAG actually call for a strike if things don't get settled?

The media moguls are using the economy card to avert a strike and get SAG to accept their offer.

A statement released by the studio mouthpiece said, "The last thing we need is a long, hot summer of labor strife that puts even more pressure on a badly struggling economy and deprives audiences of the entertainment they clearly desire in such difficult times."

Wonder how this will all play out!

A strike would definitely suck, but corporate bullying sucks hard too!

Just to point out a few things. It wouldn't be a second one. The one previous was the WGA- the Writer's Guild of America. This is the Screen Actors Guild and is a whole different ballpark. When they're fighting for the writers, it's because those guys make almost nothing besides what they're initially paid for a script and in TV, that can be pretty low. Some make about 4 cents per DVD and nothing if it's bought online, rented, or copied illegally (as seems to the the trends).

If the SAG went on strike, you wouldn't lose the writers, those guys would still be around. You'd lose your actors. You'd have plenty of material for them, they just wouldn't be able to act. You'd lose just about everybody from TV and movies considering that the vast majority of Hollywood belongs to the SAG.

I don't care if it means a strike, I'm all for the SAG actors and actresses. And I'm behind the WGA, too. Yes, actors get paid a lot to begin with, but some of them have really ****ty contracts.

Thanks for cleaing that up.
Sorry, I was pretty sure I had something wrong.
^^'

Yeah, I could handle another one. The WGA one didn't bother me much in the first place.

I hope not. That darn writer's strike ruined my TV watching.

Nooooo.
I couldn't.
That messed up my TV watching :( Especially since I got sick a lot when it happened :(

its like this okay.. these guys are being retarted and dont wanna work for cheap..

lets hire some people that WILL work for cheap .

simple !
(:

a) that's how sweatshops started in the US and slave labor started elsewhere.

b) We're not talking about el-cheapos here. We're talking everybody from Brad Pitt to Isaiah Washington. Just about every single actor or actress you watch on TV or in a movie is a member of SAG. And if they go on strike, you lose them for the duration of the stike. Shows will keep airing, but new ones won't be made. Movies already made will be realeased, but work won't start on new ones. There will be a huge lull between the end of the stockpiles and when new stuff starts coming out if the strike is long enough.

That said, I'm still behind them 100%. I'd like to see a quick negotiation work everything out, but like Shelby said, that's a picket line you couldn't pay me to cross.

joking ! joking people joking !

nonononononono! I cannot handle another season of screwed up tv shows. This is purely selfish on my part, as I'm sure those actors deserve whatever they're fighting for.
