Do you think when you check in effects your room location?

We checked in a few time really late and it seems we either got handicap rooms or rooms really far away from the lobby. I at least have it in my head, that if I check in early, I will get a "good" room. Not sure if that's true?

They seem to determine what my room is before I check in but I wonder as people complain and ask to change rooms if they don't give rooms away. Then by the end of the day all that is left is the least desirable rooms.

Anyone know????

I'd think this is the case, yes.

Rooms are never assigned at the point of check-in. Room assignment is like a big game of Jenga.

Unfortunately that can and does happen. Some have reported when they really want a certain room that the send someone a day early to check in first AM or they check in a day early.

We usually checkin in before noon and sometimes as early at 7:00 AM and have often gotten a room furthest from the lobby. I think there too are many variables that determine what room you will be assigned, whether you check in at 7:00 am or 8:00 PM. But most of all whether someone checks out of a room in the location you want on the day you check in. It really is mainly luck.

I've only had 3 DVC stays - 1 each at BCV {Oct}, Treehouses {Apr} & VGF {Dec}. Each time I requested a room location via an e-mail thru the member site. Each time I got what I asked for even though I checked in a different times. I stay for 6 - 8 nights. Not sure if that matters but maybe the room assigners place the longer stays first and then fit the shorter stays in where they can.

I've found it can make a difference if I didn't like the room that was assigned.

The first time I stayed BWV standard view, I really didn't know what to request. So I asked member services to request "fireworks view". We had stayed in a Boardwalk Inn room the night before to get frequent flyer air tickets. So I checked in around 10:00am. Room was not ready but the cm said it was first floor. I was disappointed. I asked if there were any upper floors. She looked around and found a 4th floor room, turned out to be perfect, right across from the bus stop. It was early December, so I'm sure they were sold out. So most likely she switched an assignment.

The second time was the first time a friend and I stayed at VGC. We requested a park view. My friend flew out the day before and stayed at Paradise Pier. She checked into VGC at 7:00am. She asked about the park view. We didn't get it, we got woods view. She turned on the charm and the cm said he would check in the back. He came back and said he got us a park view! I was flying out that morning and got a text from her when I was connecting in Phoenix that we got our park view, it was already ready! When I went to the desk to get my key when I got there, the cm said "you got the best studio in the place". 6th floor, park view. So most likely someone else got switched out.

I was told by MS that they do room assignments about 2 weeks beforehand. But I suspect they move folks around who complain about location or room. In August we had booked a week at BWV in 2 rooms. We added 4 nights after BWV at SSR in 1 room. Then, last minute, I added 1 night at the beginning of the trip at AKV in 1 room. We drove in and I did online check in for all 4 DVC rooms I had booked. I put what time we were arriving and on the 2nd and 3rd legs of the split I put 11:30 am for arrival time. At BWV I requested 'across the hall' for our 2 rooms. SIL was already there and she was linked as a travel with to us. When she checked in, a couple days before, she asked the CM and was told all 3 of our rooms (my 2 and SIL's 1) would be in the same area. She was at the end of a long hallway on the 4th floor (opposite end from construction). At about 10:30 we got a 'your room is not quite ready' text. So we left AKV and arrived at BWV around noon. We went to Epcot and it began to pour. DH had run out for a haircut and to stop at the liquor store and had came back into the lobby with a load of stuff to discover our room still wasn't ready, he checked at desk (it was about 3pm). I ran back in the rain and went to desk (it was now 4pm). They led us both to believe we were waiting so we could get our request (across hall as well as being a travel with SIL and she had requested we be near each other). Finally, at 4:15 we get our rooms and they are on 4th floor but not anywhere near each other. One is a left off elevator and near construction while the other is a right off elevator (same direction as SIL but her room was about 9 rooms farther down the hallway) and all 3 rooms were on the same side (so no across the hall). I think we originally had both our rooms to the right off elevator and someone else had gotten the room to the left and near construction but walked in and said 'no way'. When we walked in it was LOUD. ANd maybe a few people had turned down that room and so we got bumped to it.

We fly from the west and are usually arriving after 5 and sometime later. We have good experience with getting our room preference and have never felt like getting the left overs. My worst rooms have actually come with early check in.

I think it's becoming less likely that early arriving guests can 'bump' not yet arrived guests because of the new system where they text you your room number & you go straight to your room. Once you get that text the room is yours and your MB opens the door so they can't really reassign it to someone after that.

We live in FL and before we moved to the keys often arrived early in the day- we did not see that arriving early helped with room assignments- although I suppose we could have complained and gotten a change. We have been assigned the same eh view standard view room at BLT 3 times(separate vacations) and I did ask to change the 3rd time we were given the same room. I was told by the front desk that since we had not complained about the room in the past the room assigners gave it to us again (it was the 2nd floor studio directly over the shuffleboard courts). I replied that I did not complain about our 5th floor room that was front and center either as a standard view but wasn't assigned it again. This summer when we take our adopted daughters for the first time I will request an even room number.

We come in from the west coast and always arrive late, normally after 11pm. Normally we've found that there isn't much opportunity to switch rooms around that late at night. Do I feel like there is a disadvantage to arriving late, sure. Just seems natural that a CM might switch rooms around if there was a demanding guest earlier in the day.

When I showed up at BLT a few weeks ago there was no indication that anyone had already assigned me a room. I had checked in online, but that seemed irrelevant as I was escorted to the desk. I had requested even room (it was a lake view reservation) but I'm not picky and wouldn't complain or ask for a change if I didn't get it. The nice lady at the desk just started looking through her system and throwing options out. She had some that would be ready soon but we're on lower floors or others that would take longer. She seemed to have plenty of options for me and I offered to take a lower room overlooking the marina if it was almost ready.

We usually arrive before noon. Historically, any time we have been unsatisfied with initial room assignments they have offered other arrangements, but it usually means a longer wait time. Depending on what time of the year it is I believe they have some latitude for you to switch rooms. But I would agree that the earlier you arrive the better your chances are.

The last 5 or 6 times I've stayed at BWV standard view it has been overlooking the tennis courts.

If they don't assign this I ask for it. I think most are asking for close to the elevator or high floor or fireworks view.

I want close to the parking lot.

On one occasion when arrival was after 9 pm, I was given behind the elevator garden view HC room. They moved me down to the tennis courts. There was no tub in the room and that did not work for our party.

I've had all sorts of rooms at other resorts and pretty much been happy with all of them, except the 1 bedroom value at Jambo - I found it dark and gloomy and did not enjoy it.

This is why we like to go down a day early, stay in a local hotel over on Palm Parkway, and get up at 7 and go check in. Then we back and check out, if we didn't bring the stuff with us.

Once we got there, were promised a room in Congress Park, came back later and they had put us in the Paddock. After a quick check with the manager, we got upgraded to a one-room in Congress Park. They WILL try to make you happy whenever they can!

They assign them ahead of time but things change! We've definitely had room changes on check in day. The earlier you get there the better chance you've got!

We received the very last room (end of all the halls.....) at BWV when we arrived @ 10A.M. We were happy the room was ready so early but I wondered if they clean the farthest rooms first and possibly assign them based on arrival time (giving the early arriving guests rooms that are ready first).
Probably too logical and just coincidence but that's what I thought at the time.

Could have been empty the night before.

For me the later I fly in the worse my room location ends up being. Take my last 2 trips for example. My last trip I arrived before 11 am and got a perfect room location at Pop. Exactly what I wanted. The trip before I flew into Orlando late at night, and at CSR ended up on the very top floor and back side of the building I was placed in. Not a great location.
