Do you think we will have enough time with this connection?

American Airline plane lands at 9:50 in Chicago airport and connection leaves at 10:30. This is in April so weather should be OK. There are 6 of us traveling and we will have carry-ones, Would you chance it. How much time should I leave between flights? Oh forgot to mention we are all adults.

I've made 30 minute connections at ORD before on United, but obviously any delay on the first flight and you'll miss it. Good chance your bags may not make it even if you do.

I'd book it if it's a great deal and there's a later flight to MCO on AA and you're prepared to risk missing the connection. Otherwise, find something else.

Our last flight was with 4 adults and 1 baby 6 months old. We had a 30 min connection and I was worried. But we landed a couple minutes early and our next gate was pretty close. So we were able to even stop and change the baby!
Of course they were trying to get the next flight out early so we were actually one of the last people on the plane!
It all comes down to what you and your party will be comfortable with! If you are not comfortable then I wouldn't book it.

If the gates are in the same terminal, I'd go for it.

I once had a supposively 45 minute layover in O'Hare once. Except, the plane leaving Milwaukee for Chicago was nearly 45 minutes late leaving (in a heavy rainstorm). Fortunately, the gates were right next to each other.

I made the flight.

However, my luggage didn't.

Luggage came with the first flight the following day.

That is a pretty close connection. Chicago's airport is pretty big. When we flew out of a small airport (Portland, ME), on a really small plane, into Chicago we had a VERY long walk from one terminal to another. We would have never made a 30 minute connection. When we flew out of a larger airport (Boston, MA), on a larger plane, into Chicago our gate was right next to the one we were connecting to and we probably could have made a 30 minute connection. It did take a while to get off the plane though because we were in the back. I would be nervous to book that flight, but if it was a good deal, I probably would go for it. If there were other options for the same price, I would look into other options.

Are you flying from or to a regional jet and transferring to or from a mainline flight? If so, and you don't know the airport, that's going to be tight even if your incoming flight is on time. Don't get me wrong, I made that kind of transfer every week without missing a connection, but if you aren't experienced with it I wouldn't recommend it. If it's a an RJ to mainline connection, having carry-on bags checked at the gate actually works against you in terms of making a tight connection.

FWIW, I would be much more confident about doing it with AA at O'Hare than doing it with United.

That is a tight connection. If your plane lands on time and it doesn't take forever to get to a gate and deplane, you should make it. By the time you get to the new gate, the flight will likely already be boarding. Be warned that this could mean overhead space on the second flight might fill up before you get on and you would have to gate check your bags.
