Hi all! My hubby and I just bought a SSR resale. It passed ROFR and now we are waiting for our closing papers. We were really hoping to be able to have our first trip Oct 24-Nov4. We have 2 daughters ages 3 and 6 months. I thought Halloween in Disney would be fun. I think we will be able to get a reservation at SSR or OKW but I really have my heart set on staying at VWL. I know BC and BW are out bc of Food and Wine Festival. I think we are going to split our vacation and stay 1 week somewhere and the other 5 days somewhere else. Does anyone think I have a snowballs chance in getting into VWL...I know it is a longshot. We won't even be able to make a reservation until all our closing stuff is done. I was just wondering if I should just stay wherever I can and be happy, or change our vacation dates. Any ideas would be appreciated.

All the resorts are great. You can't go wrong with any of them. SSR's pool is great for the little ones; zero entry is wonderful. My two year old is very timid and the zero entry allows here to proceed in at her own pace.

I'd think your chances of success would be moderate. If it's not available then book what is and wait list VWL. If only part of the days are available or you have to wait list, you'll have to decide how best to proceed. If you have enough points and time prior to your banking deadlines, you can hold both a partial at VWL and the back up waiting for the entire VWL thus improving your chances of success. That would also give you the option of wait listing WLV day by day rather than as a single reservation, also improving your chance.

It's possible, but the odds are not in your favor (IMO).

The 7 month window opens for your first night on April 25. If you can close and get into the DVC system by then (That's the long shot), you'll have a good chance.

There is a lot of competiton to get into the smaller resorts (VWL, BCV & BWV) at the 7 month window. Again, IMO, there will already be waitlists for at least some of the days if you can't call a soon as the 7 month window opens.

My advice would be to try to get the VWL as soon as you are in the system. Waitlist for any days (individually) that aren't available. Make a back up reservation at SSR - hopefully you will have enough points to keep the SSR rservation until you get all the days at VWL.

If you don't have enough points to hold the SSR reservation while you try to get into VWL, there are some additional risks involved. Post again and include the use year if you want more specifics about that (not enough points to have two reservations at the same time while you wait).

P.S. Try not to be disappointed if you don't get into VWL this time. You'll have many years to try out the other DVC resorts if that's what you want to do. Your home resort is a beautiful place - Have you seen the pictures of SSR posted on the DIS?

Good luck!

first post huh welcome to the disboards:goodvibes

OH and WELCOME HOME

FWIW, we closed on our resale 3/25 and made our first ressie on 4/2. We wanted BCV or BWV 1-bed for our May trip (flexible between May 13-15 or 20-22). Both were full, but we got VWL for May 13-15 and waitlisted for BCV. OKW and SSR were both available.

For our Sept trip we got what we wanted... both BCV 1-bed (4 nights) and BWV 2-bed (6 nights), even though we are past the 7 month window.

So, my $.02 is that you won't know until you try... and you can always waitlist.

Congrats on your resale, and welcome home!!! :goodvibes

It's not the time parameters that will be the problem for the OP, it's the particular dates. It's great that you were successful, but part of the reason is that May, and particularly September, are not all that busy for DVC. The OP is trying to get into VWL during a period when they have both the Food & Wine Fest and the Halloween party working. She might get lucky too, but that time of year is a LOT busier for DVC than May and September.

thanks to all for your thoughts...I think I have decided to just be happy to stay anywhere...it is Disney after all and SSR does look very pretty and it is new...so I will love it, I am sure:cool1:

oops! PIERCEDRN is my hubby...and his screen name was logged in when I posted that reply...:rotfl:

For an Oct-Nov stay, the 7 month window has already opened, April 25 will be 6 months! ;)
