Do you think they will ever give DVC discount on DCL?

I agree! When those new ships come on line, I think there will be more realistic DCL pricing.

Right now we will not cruise with DCL if it is more than a few hundred ($300) more than a comparable cruise. For us (as adults only) there are other cruise lines out there that more than satisfy us. Yeah, we love the Mouse, but not with huge price tags.

It will be nice for the pricing to come down when the new ships arrive. Still, don't expect the premium to disappear as the Disney cruises offer a premium. Did you know that they have bathtubs in their regular staterooms? What othe cruiseline does that? Rooms are bigger than average too. So finding a "comparable cruise" may not be easy. Disney cruises look more expensive than the lowest cost cruises, but so do the newest ships from Princess, Royal Caribbean, etc.

Yup, I know about the bathtub. And I know that DCL staterooms are larger. But we just completed a Celebrity cruise where the stateroom was 192 SF. It is just the 2 of us, we didn't miss that extra space.

I have done 2 DCL and 2 Celebrity. For me, the premium that DCL charges is worth about $300 extra, no more.

But we don't have children (we ARE children!). I can understand why parents do pay more.

Celebrity and Holland America tend to have bigger rooms and their prices are somewhat higher than Princess, Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Newer ships tend to cost more, though they keep prices down by making ships bigger and getting even more economies of scale. For low end bargain cruises, DCL is already near the $100/day mark for inside cabins, and for 7 day cruises less then $300 more than some other lines, and very near the higher end lines or newer ships. The Caribbean is a saturated market, both in ships as well as past travelers who wish to go elsewhere. Still, there's a nearly endless supply of passengers that go when prices fall, and the efficiency of operations helps keep the ships going. The west coast (Alaska and Mexico) is saturated from providers, but the passengers who want Disney isn't yet in my view. They'll steal customers from the other lines, and with more promotion and outlets, they should keep several ships busy. Besides the obvious west coast and mountain state customers, international travelers from Asia are an untapped market. Disneyland will make a good anchor. And then there's Hawaii and the future DVC (fingers crossed).
