Do you think Physicians react differently to an attractive patient?

I would bet most physicians would say the same thing, while unaware they are doing it.

::yes:: Especially if there isn't much at home to look at.

I don't think it's as much physical attractiveness as it is the way the patient presents themselves and their attitude. I could care less what size you are or what you look like, it's your overall demeanor.

But if Patient A, who is young, blonde, and weighs 120 comes in smelling like a thousand camels, didn't bother to put on pants before she called the ambulance for her lower abdominal pain that she's had for six months, and is yelling at me to get her a dinner tray before I even triage her...you bet I don't want to spend anymore time with her than I have to.

I'd rather take care of the elderly man who weighs 350 pounds and is incontinent that comes in for fever because he and his family are polite, have a legitimate health concern, and are grateful for my care.

But I do think some people treat well-dressed people better, and I have a theory why, at least in the ER. The ED in my city, at least, is used as a primary care clinic for people that don't have insurance. So if someone comes in who is well-dressed, people assume they have insurance, and if they are at the ER, they must have a real emergency that their PMD couldn't take care of in the office. Is it right? No, but it happens.

I have to say yes. My ex is a physician. He and his buddies would talk about the 'hotties' they treated. It was kinda sick n a way. The social class thing is also very apparent. They would talk about their patients and sterotyped them. If you were lesser than middle class, you were 'drug seeking'. I could go on and tell you stories; the drug use , gambling and cheating. A friend of ours is a surgeon and he was addicted to 'coke'....really scary.

I'va always been treated very wellby every doc I have seen, with the exception of one..That's even when I weighed 20 pounds more than now.

Wow, maybe I'm reading this wrong, but that sounds a bit nasty.

Except when it was not a response to you, like this time.

Are you passive-aggressively saying that Dawn is ugly, therefore her husband drools over his patients?

I'm trying really hard to figure out some other intention behind that comment. And seriously hoping we're all reading it wrong.

If we're reading it as intended, it isn't just rude, it is childish. And wrong, to boot. It's a tiny picture, but Dawn seems pretty to me.

Yes, we all get that you don't like Dawn, but do you have to have a snippy remark to or about her in every thread she posts in?

I think you secretly want her.

Hmm,, I thought cardaway quoted someone else, not Dawn. I don't think he meant Dawn. I do think a doctor would be more inclined to favor his attractive patients more if he were lacking something at home. Its human nature. A person who is happy in their marriage would probably be less likely to be swayed by an attractive person of the opposite sex, regardless of their profession.

Yes, I believe it......your thread reminds of a ob-gyn and I visited him for the very first time.

I was a little over 20 years old, and when this male doctor first came into the examining room, his eyes got real big and I just sense the "WOW" attraction (ladies you know what I mean -- that look men give). Well, he was talking to me lots and lots, did his examination, wanted to know my sexual experiences, etc.

Very interested in my life and took time to talk and explain and GET THIS -- he offered me a job there to work for his office!!!!!!!!!! I said no way -- you saw me naked!!!!

At least somebody noticed. I didn't even respond to Dawn in this thread until SHE got nasty with me over something I didn't even do.

I do believe it's a human nature thing, especially those who are not happy with the spouses looks.

I apologize if you really weren't referring to Dawn in this instance. However, you do it enough that it does catch my attention.

no, it was in rresponse to someone who responded to me and i wasn't the only one who got that impression. its such a frequent occurance with you that it was an easy 'leap' to mske.
