Do you think DVC should be a little more open to people moving dates without penalty because of corona?

I've read the DCL new policy and understand DVC resort canceling/holding/banking (I think). But what about cruises booked with points? It's not til late August so no decisions yet but if I cancel before 30 days out, do I get my points back?

I'd have to look but I think some were banked from prior year and some current year. If so, do points from prior year go into holding and current year come back into current year (and can be banked forward at my usual banking deadline)?
The points are returned, but they come back as reservation points. Those cannot be used to book a DVC resort or a trade into RCI or a trade for something in the Lake Buena Vista Trading Company.

Reservation points cannot be banked, transferred or borrowed and expire at the end of use year. For more about reservation points:

When points go into holding, you must use them within 60 days of the original reservation. For example, if you canceled a reservation for March 1st-3rd, then you’d have to use the points by April 30-May 2nd (or anytime before then) which would be 60 days from the original reservation. That’s my understanding.
No that’s incorrect. You can only make a dvc reservation 60 days out. You don’t have to use your points in 60 days.

Unfortunately I had to cancel my Disney cruise that was scheduled for next week. My ex wife was concerned about taking my oldest daughter on the ship in addition to my 70 year old father watching too much news. I had been looking forward to going for a year.

Luckily, thanks to people canceling their WDW DVC trips, I was able to piece together a 5 night stay at WDW.

Someone cancelled a week of Beach Club 2 bedrooms but by the time I selected it, it was gone.

We have two nights at Copper Creek then 3 nights at Jambo.

The cruise will have to wait for another day.

So, does this mean I would only be able use ALL the points from my cruise reservation for my home resort? I saw several "not"s but not a "can".

No. You cannot use those points to book any DVC resort, not even your home resort.

You can only use them to book something in the Disney Collection (which includes cruises on DCL and non-DVC resorts, such as POR or DLH), or something in the Concierge Collection.

I think they, MS, an swap as long as you didn't book the existing resie in the 11 month window (booked 7 months or less).

I have an existing reservation for June. If I would book a reservation before June and have to cancel and end up with holding points could those holding points being swapped with points used in my June reservation? I am trying to decide if a last minute trip would be better booked with cash.

You cannot swap in holding points. You’d have to cancel your reservation and make a new reservation within the sixty day window, using the holding points.

Can you move holding points to an existing reservation? I am assuming no.

You can if any of your nights are still available to be booked at the 60 day mark.

I did that in November, I had a Jan reservation and holding points. The morning of the 60 day window, there were a few nights still there at Poly. I went through the modification system, and just continued through and it pulled the holding points into the reservation and freed up other points,

So, if there are still nights there, youll Be able to swap them out. Had there not been rooms, then I would have been out of luck.

I’ve been checking multiple times daily and the amount of people canceling their trips for the upcoming weeks has been insane. Yesterday an entire week of AKV value studios was available for next week.

We will be at Disney next week. Maybe the crowds will be low....

Edit. The current wait time for FOP is 90 minutes... 15 minutes for Everest....

I called today and canceled my trip 3/14-18. I was at first told they would go into holding but then I asked if they were making any accommodations because of the virus and then was told I could cancel without penalty because it was my first time doing so. So I am not sure if I got a one time exception or if it was for the virus. Either way, I was very appreciative , it eases the sting of cancelling our trip.

I believe you get one cancellation without penalty. They will not do it a 2nd time. From what I have heard they are strict about that.

This is not accurate. There is no rule that they will allow points to not be put in holding for first time cancel. I had my first one in 11 years when I adjusted in November and I could not get points out of holding.

I think they may have decided to bend rules for this situation and been directed to mention that so people aren’t expecting this all the time.

I have a reservation starting this Saturday for a week and I am on the fence about going.
We have been told to listen to "the experts". However we do not know much about this virus yet. There are many conflicting answers about how to protect ourselves from this virus, and how long it can linger on surfaces.

I know for the most part, Disney housekeeping does an OK job. However in this situation, when (if?) I check in on Saturday, I would expect the room to be "deep cleaned" with a hospital-grade disinfectant all over, including countertops, appliances, and tabletops -- Basically wherever the virus can live.

I am not sure Disney is doing this and is the housekeeping staff trained to perform this type of cleaning?

So I just got off with member service. They said they are looking at each member's situation. They told me since my points are borrowed as long as I call before 31 days they will put days back in June 2020 year. I asked her if i had to make that decision right now she told me no; 31 days before check-in. So if you have concerns call them and they will help you to figure out what your options are. ( my trip dates are May 24-29)
