Do you think Disney will make any major changes to security?

If they were going to, I would have expected it by now.

I still find the random enhanced screening to be crazy, especially given the examples I have seen posted here where guards asked a people which family member to send through the metal detector.

It sort of seems like they are doing more when crowds are lower and can accommodate it, which makes no sense to me at all.

I think the "that we see" part is the key. Much of their security we don't see, and that is probably the part that works the hardest.
I agree with this as there is so much security behind the scenes. You never see what goes on behind the scenes but I have to believe a place like Disney has a lot. There are cameras on every ride through the entire ride. I have seen reports of undercover (CM's ?) which are security.

I live here in Orlando and have had an AP for the past 15 years, I go to the parks at least once a week and I can tell you that they are doing more. I can pick out pretty quickly the undercover people, now I can see them on the monorail ramps and in the TTC when before I used to only see them at the bag check areas.

What do you think will we see major changes or just a few tweaks here and there.

Disney has had major security in place even before the first visible security check started. There is people and stuff going on that only them really know what it's doing (and why the government comes to disney to learn how to better secure high visibility targets)... They are very very good at not taking away from the disney experience from seeing it everywhere. The metal detectors and better bag checks is just an increase in visible security theater to make everyone rest a little easier that they did something..

I was once in the park when a guest got very unrulely with a castmember and BAM, dozens of security that looked like guests near me were on it and took care of it.. disney doesn't play around and never has with security.

In my mind, the #1 rule to security is don't tell anyone what your security is.. once you have it out there and visible, then people can start to find their way around it. I am happy they do it this way and my professional experience in this area gives them a WOOHOO, good job.

We actually can't discuss specifics (or at least I think we can't?) because it would defeat the purpose of a lot of the behind the scenes stuff.

They have beefed things up and it was already announce Disney Springs is getting more cameras. The things we can talk about are the visible things. I have to say my early June trip was the 1st time I have seen uniform officers and dogs out. They were before you even got to security. This was every park and several around Disney Springs. It was a sad sight for me because Disney was the last place where that wasn't normal and you could escape and now that is gone. Still magical once you get through security but before it is a little bit of a bummer. I know it is to keep us safe and for that I'm glad.

Good I am all for it.

We were there from 6/14 through 6/23 and the increased security was noticeable. We entered MK late last Saturday night with our CM friend to attend the Pulse vigil and security was heightened. There were at least 2 security people located behind each CM checking bags at each bag check table and they were moving most guests through the metal detectors. There were dedicated entrance tapstiles specifically for CMs and their guests.

On all parking levels of Disney Springs' garages, security was stationed at each elevator/escalator area. There was also a major CM presence in the new DS area.

As @wilkeliza stated, it's best not to say what measures are in place behind the scenes and backstage but please know that Disney is being very proactive in increasing their backstage security measures.

I'd love it if they made security an attraction...with colored lights on the metal detectors and a sprinkling of pixie dust....maybe different results depending on the color of your magicband...

Well, don't let everyone see all of your security. If you recall the failed plot to attack Ft Dix several years ago, one of the reasons the attackers chose Ft Dix over McGuire AFB was because McGuire's security was random. You'd see them doing a lot of stuff, but never the same stuff at the same time. So like you say, behind the scenes security is always working, but your public security is random, so they never know how to defeat it. I suspect Disney has similar practices.

I'm curious if Disney has cast members or anyway to check back stage. I can see it may be easier to get something through the back.

I have to show this to my husband who was selected twice for the metal detector thing on our last trip and he griped to the Cast Member and to me about being profiled. So now he's telling people that average while males over the age of 50 will be pulled aside for screening. I just laugh it off but if he knows the reason I bolded he might calm down since we leave again this Friday.

They do, you can't really predict what the entrance is going to be like to get in and it'll be different each time during the same day you pass through it.

well his logic is wrong because I get pulled an awful lot. (9 out of ten times a lot). I was actually starting to get pissed off at it because I'm trying to have a nice father/daughter time at disney and we're not bringing anything into the park and who are they missing being so preoccupied with me.. after I wrote disney suddenly everyone started to be checked a lot more and I got happy again...

now what pisses me off is security can check you rather quick but for some reason we need to spend 10 minutes scanning our ticket to actually go into the park (maybe not 10 minutes but damn does it feel like that).

Yes there is a way to check. Since it is backstage I'm not sure what can be discussed but it is possible to search CMs. During my time the random searches were more about finding theft then protect to be honest.

Now the hotels are much harder. There are just too manh points of entry.

In terms of security you can see, the gates are as good as they can be without going full TSA (Which NO ONE, including Disney, wants). There are plain clothes security all over the parks though and they're good at what they do. (I've spotted them here and there, but I know my own kind)

Thanks I did my CP in Spring 97 at MK and then Yes Program in 2000. At that time there were no checks on cast members. I don't remember if they had already began checking bags when you enter the park. I remember having bags checked maybe once but I have not been back since 2001.

I was picked almost every time last month and we joked that I was meeting their pale white girl quota. I'm mid 50's.
