given the slow economy hi gas food oil prices slower summer predicted recesion looming etc etc would they move to offer more discounts now instead of waiting to see a real slowdown then reacting any comments or info?

Hopefully they will send out more 40% codes. I'm still waiting for one. Dh got a 30% and I got a 20% but not for the time we can:sad2: go

I met someone recently that works at Disney, I think in special events. I asked how things were going and she said really good actually. She said the European dollar is doing really well and they are getting a lot of visitors from that. So I don't think it's suffering like other businesses in this country.

I agree!! There are a lot of families coming over from europe and also brazil is also a big area that comes over to WDW. Sadly I think the Free Dine, Bounce back code and pin codes are as much as we here in the states are going to get.:sad2:

I think that if we do see more discounts it will be after the summer is over.....a lot of people have been planning for months to go to WDW this summer and will probably go regardless of gas prices. (The price of gas sure is making me consider flying.....)

We have ressies for Aug. and while we are going I worry because I have to come up with extra money. About $400. give or take for tips (DDP) and extra money for gas. It cost about $200.00 last year in August, I'm scared it will cost twice + this August. I save for our trips by watching 2 fifth graders after school and selling clothes at a mothers of multiples yard sale. I am watching one of the girls (our neighbor) for 5 weeks out of the summer I am hoping that will pay for gas. I do worry about the cost of everything now.

If it does slow down, just guessing not until Fall. But then it will all soon start back up again almost as soon it could die down a bit, esp the closer into holiday season, starting with the Halloween hoopla around Orlando (HHN and MNSSHP and anything else).
Plus Pop Warner is early December.
Maybe see a little lessening of the crowds, and then that will bring more travel promotions. However right now everything seems to be booming.
And it is all guesswork right now too from anyone on what is and might be.

We frequently stay at the resorts for a few days a month and each time lately there seemed to be plenty of guests both at the resorts and parks. We were at DAK for Earth Day which was packed. Since it *was* packed we decided to head over to MK but it was just as crowded there so no lack of crowds. DTD was also swarming with people last week. Staying on Disney property, to me, is like no other place on earth. Where else can you find a getaway from stress and meet so many wonderful CM's and guests too? It's worth it to me to include "vacations" in my budget and I'm guessing that as long as people have enough $$ in their budget to have some choices, others are feeling the same way.---Kathy

omg, you and I are in similiar situations. We are going during free dining, but I still need to pay for gas and tips and a little for souvenirs. I do babysit kids after school, but the moms are making other arrangements this summer. I am kind of worried about the income I am going to be losing this summer as well as saving the rest of the money I need for my trip. I am sure it will work out, though!

The dollar sucks, and people from other countries are really excited about that.

Even going to a country NOT on the Euro yet, but trying to switch over within the next few years was crazy expensive last year.

It doesn't make a difference for Disney, because they get just as much money from people from elsewhere as they get from people in the US.

Also, people outside the US tend to get and take more vacation time, so there's more of a chance that they'll use some of it to go to Disney...

I hope Disney is kind though, and realizes that those of us in their home country are in having trouble and sends us all 40% off pin codes.

sorry to say, the others are correct. Business at Disney is booming and as long as those rooms are full, very few discounts.

Many foreigners are coming due to the savings and many Americans are not traveling far from home due to gas prices and the economy so it is is win/win situation for Disney.

I don't know if they will discount or not. It looks to be going in that direction though.. I work in the casino industry and they are starting to layoff workers in vegas.

I would say business for Disney is booming. We just went and it was our most crowded trip ever.

According to Disney, park attendance is up by 20% from last years numbers. As well as the resorts bookings. Sadly, I beleive they feel no threat of our suffering economy.

I agree! At Christmas I went to NYC for the day and at least half the people there seemed to be from England! One told me that it was heaven to be shopping in the US. A 50% sale :thumbsup2

Europe will support this year at WDW.
I'm afraid its the Americans including myself who are going to suffer with the weak US Dollar !

Lots of guests from Europe arrive with empty suitcases and then have a long holiday here in which they visit the parks and shop at all the outlet malls around WDW. One guest told me that he "made" money off his trip- he bought an entire year's worth of clothing for his family at such a great discount that including what he paid to stay 2 weeks at WDW it was a greater savings than if he'd bought the same clothing at "home" and not come to the US.
I guess besides Disney having increased attendance, so is the local economy/outlet malls making profits and collecting sales taxes. Visitor sales taxes keep much of the economy afloat in Florida and there's a mild push to allow hotel taxes to be used for local initiatives as well vs. just for more advertising and industry support. People are still coming to WDW which is really the bottom line for WDW- it doesn't matter where they're coming from. I really don't think many businesses think or care about suffering of those in hard economic times- it's not good business sense to do so and businesses answer to shareholders, not the public.---Kathy

I called Disney twice the other week and both times a CM answered right away. I just called to see if I have a code under my name. Well a message said it woulld be about a 4 min wait. It seemed longer than that. I hung up and decide to call back on the 1st. Maybe I was just lucky the other two times i called-lol! Unless theres a sale i dont know about-lol!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Nov code. Has anyone gotten one for nov 15-23?

I really hope there some type of deal for the fall

Don't forget Canada. The dollar is almost equal and they are coming to Buffalo (where I reside) to shop. Our county made 34 million extra dollars from the tax over the Christmas holiday.

I flew to WDW April 20 and over half the plane was from Ontario.
