Do you think Asian River Cruises might be on the horizon?

I just completed my survey for the Winter in Wyoming trip. I do not recall seeing this before as an option on the surveys with regards to "where would you be interested in traveling to." I may have overlooked it on previous surveys but it sort of stood out to me today. I decided to copy the list below. Has anyone seen this on their surveys before?

Oh man, if they announce that as a new itinerary I am pretty certain we will book right off the bat on day one. If they do, at this rate I'm never going to get to go on that China ABD that I keep postponing for other adventures :rotfl:

I wonder if it's because some people seem to be reluctant to go to Europe with all the terrorist attacks that have been happening lately. I think Asia doesn't have that stigma right now...

I hope they keep expanding their River cruises. An Asian river cruise would move to the top of my list as well. One thing that's interesting in that list is Asia river cruises are the only thing on that list that's new.

There is also the consideration that it might be a happy compromise on a Japan ABD/cruise.

Quite frankly, I don't get the reluctance of Americans going to Europe due to the possibility of attacks. We have some crazy attack in our own country every few months it seems. If that were the case I'd move out of Florida. First there was the attack on the night club in Central Florida near WDW which we visit nearly every month if not more. Then yesterday there's the attack at the Ft. Lauderdale airport which is literally 15 minutes from my house and I just flew in there from Wyoming a few days ago. Home is just as dangerous so I won't let fear stand in the way of my travel plans.

I'm bummed to not see Japan on that list! I still can't believe they don't have a trip to take advantage of the parks there. Thompson family vacations just announced a new japan trip. Come on Disney, get with it.

Totally agree, calypso. Our travel to Europe hadn't changed.

I don't think it's a rational thing at all. I certainly agree with you, and have not changed any of my travel plans, to Europe or otherwise because of terrorism. I booked a trip to Disney World the day after 9/11 (the trip was being planned before then, and I decided it was a good time to commit to it.) The world is dangerous everywhere, and you either live with it or stick your head in the sand. I choose to live with it.

I flew to a dog show a week after 9/11. Albuquerque didn't exactly strike me as a major target for an attack.

Yup, there's violence and terrorism in just about every country. Except maybe Iceland. 70% of the crime in Iceland are traffic offenses. I don't believe there has ever been a terrorist attack there. So it's pretty safe. Well except for the volcanoes. There is that :rolleyes1

Thanks for posting the list...I was busy doing the survey on my phone before we left Prague and was excited to hit New Zealand that I didn't notice whether Asian River Cruising was on it (of course, I have negative interest in that so I just might have skipped over it). I was so frustrated I couldn't remember your thread regarding dream locations to fill in the Someplace else (please specify) :( Next year I'll be armed with a print out of it :)

I also don't understand the public's seeming reluctance to travel out of fear, domestic violence notwithstanding. How many people drive in automobiles? They account for significantly higher morbidity and mortality than targeted attacks. Sigh...

Just realized I veered slightly off topic. Sorry!

I don't recall if my most recent survey had a similar question, but at some point the question was included. I remember copy and pasting the list to this forum too. Did you have any suggestions for "Someplace not listed"?

I'm a little surprised Japan is omitted, as well. I think they included it before.

Here is the "Where do you wish ABD would go" thread http://www.disboards.com/threads/i-wish-abd-would-go-to.3556412/
The list was definitely different than the last ABD survey list. I didn't print it out and don't recall what all of the differences were but I distinctly remember seeing New Orleans on there and now it isn't. I added a check mark to New Zealand too.

I added Antarctica and Japan on this last survey for my someplace not listed. I REALLY want to go to Antarctica but I am hoping to go with ABD. A friend is going with Celebrity cruise and I saw that the whole ship sells out two years in advance!

Oh that would be so cool if we wound up on the same ABD! It's always fun to meet someone from this board IRL. Yup, that is what stood out to me but wanted to make sure it wasn't something I had overlooked. AmaWaterways has an existing river cruise to Vietnam and Cambodia. ABD already has a land presence there so it makes sense that this would be next on the list of an expansion for river cruises. Despite the fact that everyone I have spoken with raves about that particular ABD it hasn't been on my radar. I'd likely book it as a river cruise though. I was really hoping it would be a Japan river cruise as far as Asian river cruises go. As for ABD doing river cruise expansions with AmaWaterways, I was hoping for Africa with Victoria Falls. If that doesn't happen I will be touching base with you and wdwgroupie to figure out how to do Victoria Falls post South Africa ABD in 2019.

I hate cold weather, but I've been watching the Lindblad/Nat Geo live feeds from The Falklands and Antarctica and when I see all those penguins I want to go there sooooo bad!

I'd love to do a SE Asia river cruise even more than a China river cruise. However, I think if they offered any Asian cruises it would be in China. That seems to be more popular on other river cruise lines and they could end in Shanghai DL which would be a big draw.

SE Asia is a great land ABD though and it does excel at night. We did an evening gondola cruise in Cambodia, had dinner up in a Saigon skyscraper overlooking the lit up city. We walked around in Hoi An with the beautiful lit paper lanterns at night and had an awesome outdoor dinner overlooking the jungles of Laos at sunset. So there's an upside to a land tour even if ABD don't offer a river cruise.

Unfortunately, we won't be going to Victoria Falls. Gavin and I are usually physically and emotionally exhausted after ABD's, and I think it would better and less stressful for Gavin and me to head back after the ABD is over. That was a tough choice as we're SO CLOSE.
