Do you tell people when they are on speaker phone?

My boss used to sit in the next cube and make ALL his calls on speaker phone, volume cranked & him shouting at the phone.

Consequently, I detest speaker phone. I don't even answer a page to my extension without lifting my headset.

If I do use speakerphone it's for a work call where myself and others need to be able to hear and I always tell the caller they're on speakerphone and who is in the room.

I once had an incident at a college theater. Security guard who did not know how to handle someone seizing. I called the director the next day to discuss my concerns. Unbeknownst to me he had the guard in the room and the phone on speaker. I didn't say anything bad but suddenly the guard started to defend herself.

I ended the call with the statement "it's inappropriate to have a call on speaker without identifying it as such. That security guard doesn't know how to handle a person seizing. On s college campus that could be deadly. Don't say I didn't warn you".

I only use it when I'm hope alone, but I still tell them. "I'm on speaker, but no one else is here." Why leave them wondering who might be hearing them?

I have never used the speaker phone.

I don't talk on the phone all that much so usually I get off the phone really quick when I am except when I'm talking to my Mother who loves to speak on the phone. Maybe I need to figure out how to use the speaker phone on my cell so I can get stuff done still when she calls me.

If someone is on speakerphone, I would like to be told about it. I think that's good manners.

I'll use the Bluetooth speaker in my car if a family member or friend calls me. Otherwise, I wait until I can make a handheld call. If there is someone else in the car with me, I'll let the caller know. I have a friend who once forgot to mention that her daughter was in the car with her, and I brought up a subject that really should have been kept between us. I asked her to please give me a heads up if that ever happened again.

And I really don't understand why the car speaker is so loud when someone is on a call. I can never hear music clearly from another call, but I can easily hear phone conversations. Does anyone know why that is?
