Its going to be a beautiful weekend here and i really need stuff. I was thinking of heading up to the outlets in Williamsburg, VA and I was thinking about bringing my dog along for the ride. DH would come too.

Have any of you dog parents done this? I see people do this in rehoboth beach but this is the first time I've thought about doing it myself. I hate the thought of leaving him home if its a really nice day.

So thoughts and advice:confused:

no I havent, Im sure your dog would like it, but if it would be easier just take him on a long walk before you leave, then he will be happy and take a nap while your gone

That's what we usually do, but he hasn't had a ride in awhile and I thought it might be nice to take him someplace new.

Actually I'm not really in the mood to go shopping, but really need so much stuff I can't put it off. So I'm trying to find a way to include my dog

Personally I wouldnt. The dog can't go in the stores it's gonna be stuck in the car the whole time. How is that better than being at home on a beautiful day? I'd much rather have my dog stay at home where it is temperature controlled with water and food rather than in a a car for hours in close to 80 degree weather. It's not like you are going to a park or somewhere the dog can actually enjoy itself. JMO!

I wasn't going to leave him stuck in the car where it gets hot. My basic plan was to have 1 of us walk him around outside the stores while the other goes in to look around. My Dh usually sits outside the store anyway most times. And he knows what he likes so he's usually quick about himself, if he goes in at all. which isn't often.

I know what I'm looking for so my plan was to shop early and then take the dog walking in 1 of the colonial areas. I don't really want to spend all day shopping, but its kind of a drive so I don't want to go up for an hour and then turn around and go home

My DH wouldn't want to come along if the only purpose for him would be to watch the dog. I am assume that will be your DH's job since you aren't going to leave the dog in a hot car. I love my dogs dearly but their idea of fun is not wandering around a hot parking lot for hours on end.

I see you're not new to the boards. Have you not read any of the threads in the past on this very subject? They can get heated and downright nasty. That's all I'm saying on the subject.

ETA: Since my post, I see now you're not planning on taking your dog *inside* to shop. Totally different scenario than what I had previously thought. Perhaps okay...I don't know the area you are to be able to speak about it.

The outlet center is an outdoor kind of thing. Think really nice strip mall.

If I'd seen 1 on this subject i wouldn't have asked. I've seen lots of dog threads, but not on this specifically.

Actually, since he prefers to drive since I really don't know that area well. But Like i said in a my previous post, I can be done shopping pretty quick and then we can go to 1 of the colonial areas where it'll be nicer walking for the dog.

After working all week, all i really want to do is stay home and play with the dog, That's all I really want to do, but I need clothes and I'm not finding what I need here, so I'd kind of like to make it as fun a day as possible.

I know what the outlets are. I live only minutes way from the one in Queenstown, MD and often frequent the ones in Rehoboth, DE and Ocean City, MD. Still just not somewhere I'd take my dog and don't think it's a great idea when I see others with theirs there. Again JMO.

BTW where do dog owners take their dogs to use the bathroom while shopping? Into the private field waaaaaay outback or right there on the sidewalk where everyone walks? I've been wondering that for sometime now.

Fair enough. I worded my post poorly. I suppose I *should* have said, "You're not new to the boards so I'm very surprised you haven't read a thread on this subject." Sorry!!! :flower3:

NO, really wasn't planning on taking him inside even though some pet friendly site says some of the stores don't mind. But I don't know how true that is and I'm not going to find out.

Just wish i wasn't having such a hard time finding stuff down here. Then I wouldn't even entertain this notion. I'd take Onslow up to the colonial areas and have a nice stroll and that's it. Its nice weather so there are outdoor eats available too.

Rehoboth Outlets are the ones I'd rather go to. Wouldn't even think of bringing Onlsow since my parents parents live 5 minutes from them. I am stuck down here until the end of June though:sad2: And the closest decent outlet center is in Williamsburg. And I'm not that fond of em. But I'm trying to find decent shorts and spring stuff and I'm not having any luck here. Can't chance waiting until i get up there. Fashion seasons are changing on me.

I can understand that I went to Carters for summer dresses for dd2 two weeks ago and they already have their fall line up.

That's what I'm afraid is gonna happen to me if i wait much longer. Clothes shopping is a PIA:headache:

Also, if you take your dog, people will be stopping you and asking to pet it then they will want to talk about the dog's breed or talk about their own dog, or something else doggy related. So this may slow down your progress some as you shop.

Living in Germany my dog goes everywhere with me. He has his favorite sales associates in many stores! I figure if folks can bring their whiny, tiresome kids, I can bring my well behaved quiet dog!! there is only one restaurant that we go to regularly where pup is not allowed. Otherwise he goes where we go!

before our beloved Hannah past, this was her favorite thing to do. she loved to walk and to stop and have people pat and talk to her, and just be with us. i say go for it. Hannah always loved car rides and the walks at the end of them.

My hubby is doing some training in Portsmouth and next weekend we are going down to see him. We always bring our Pomeranian, JoJo and I am hitting the Williamsburg outlets to go to the Brighton outlet and she's going with us. DH and DS take turns holding her while I go in the store and shop. Most times, the associates tell me to bring her inside so they can see her.

Where I am originally from (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) people brought their dogs everywhere, so I'm used to having her with me.
