This is my first trip to Disney, and I was wondering- do you take your cameras into the parks with you? I am a little concerned with the water rides and getting my camera wet...it was a birthday present from dh, and it is a little expensive! Any ideas on what I can do to protect the camera and film?

Thanks,

There are a couple of things you can do,

1.gallon size ziploc bags are great for holding all your film or shooting pix on water rides with the camera in the bag.

2.I just read a post, that they packed the camera and it's parts in to a padded 6 pack cooler bag. Besides protecting the camera from bumps,it looks like lunch! not a spendy camera!! And who wants to steal a lunch bag at WDW?? [I'm doing this next time!! I found a 12 pack colapsible padded cooler bag at sears,That will be just right to fit the camcorder in!!]

3.Buy a water resistant bag at WDW. I found mine at AK [they are in all parks and resorts] it's black with Sourcer Mickey on it. It is shaped like this \_/ with short handers that work great for carring it on your shoulder. The great thing about this one is it will fit all the stuff the family wants to put in it on a water ride, sun glasses, hats, johnny's most precious rock, toy, and just about anything else. It was my best purchase last trip. I like to use it when I need to carry legal size doc's or the camcorder I used it last week when I taped a wedding.

Anyone else have great ways to carry your camera??

I bought a very expensive camcorder for my trip last week(Im trying not to remember how much it was...oi! :( ) I wanted to take a video on splash mountain so I wrapped it in a disney poncho so only the lens and viewfinder were exposed. Worked great once I got it wrapped up.

For the water parks I'd buy a waterproof disposable camera. Most camera cases are water resistant enough for places like Splash Mountain. If you're very concerned you can have someone hold your camera or get a locker (but that's not really necessary).

I folded a Taget bag really small & stuck it in the bottom of my fanny pack. On splash I put my fanny pack & sweatshirt in the bag & tied it tight. Everything stayed dry except me! I was glad I took off my sweatshirt because it can get really cold on an e-ride night :D

My camera is small enough to carry in my fanny pack. It is an olympus & travels really well without the case.

I bring my mini dv. Its greatest convenience is how light and small it is, fitting anywhere. I put it in a ziploc bag, and then in its camcorder bag, which goes in a larger bag. I take digital pictures and download them to a digital wallet when the card fills up, right in the parks with no need to bring along a laptop.

Just for security, I was thinking about getting a disposable, waterproof camera for the water parks, however, but have not yet made up my mind about it.

No one in my family wants to be the one stuck carrying the camera so we now just bring a bunch of disposables with us. I can usually find them at Staples for $3.99 each for 27 exp. and they are lightweight and fit easily into the fanny packs. The quality of the pictures is fine for our needs.

We bring 3 cameras! I carry the regular camera. DD carries the video camera and DH carries the digital camera.

We have the regular & digital cameras in camera bags. We just keep the vido camera in our backpack. We have never had a problem with the cameras getting wet.

We bring 2 cameras. We have one regular camera. And we have a digital camcorder which also has a digital camera feature.

We bring one or two cameras usually. Our main snapshot camera is a Kodak APS point and shoot, which fits nicely in a camera pouch that hooks onto a belt or over the shoulder with a strap. Its not water proof per se, but so long as it doesn't get immersed, the design is such that the camera doesn't get wet.

Our other camera is an SLR, which either rides around my neck or in its camera bag. This camera doesn't go on the rides (wet or dry).

Our film we leave in the canister, stored in the most convenient place. That's either my pockets, the belt pouch, or the fanny pack.

If I did worry more about safeguarding a camera, I'd use the gallon sized ziplockish food storage bags we use to transport the film to and from home.

If I wasn't a hobbyest photographer, I'd probably just buy disposable cameras.

Hope this helps,
Joe

We don't carry our good camera in the parks except on one day that we call picture day. But we do carry a little disposable kodak one that fits in my DH's pocket. This way we can do those spur of the minute pictures without a bunch of trouble. I don't carry one thing into the parks with me! I just give DH my ticket and he keeps it with his. You will have to take into consideration though my children are grown. But we have found that we both enjoy ourselves so much more without having to keep up with a camera! And actually the little 35mm disposables make good pictures.
