I've often wondered why people use offensive language. I feel very uncomfortable around people who swear and cuss on a regular basis.

I work with many that use inproper language in every sentence. I think it just as easy to get your point across with words that are not offensive to others yet come off stronger then swears.

I really don't swear, but I agree it is uncomfortable when people swear around me. It just doesn't sound right, the dictionary is filled with other more appropriate words to use if you really want to get your point across and anger out!

I try not to and I do from time to time. And when I do my kids get on me about it......

I am very old-fashioned for a teenager: I don't swear. Well, once in a while I'll use "crap" and "dang" but that's the worst you'll ever hear me say.

Yes I do, but I have very good control over it!(Except for the story below:blush: ) It drives me crazy when I hear people swearing in public places like restaurants, stores, etc. Actually I'm kind of a closet swearer - usually just around my husband or to myself!

I remember once when I was trying to pump gas at a local gas station. I was having trouble getting the thing to work, and finally let out a very frustrated #%&*!* (insert about 4 or 5 choice words!), thinking I was only talking to myself. Right after that, a voice came out from the speaker saying, "Can I help you with something, ma'am?". I had no idea there even was a speaker there amd I almost died of embarrassment!

Nope, but do say dang, darn, drat. The people I work with do say one every other word, but then get in front of a customer and can control it very well. Wish they would control it around me.

I completely agree! Even though I'll occasionally let words slip, I usually find myself using other words to better describe things. Usually the only time I let any swears slip is if I, in the usual excuse, stub my toe or get caught in a frantic situation that I have no immediate control over...i.e., stubbing toe. lol.

I don't think swearing every other word is cool lol...it think it sounds trashy. lol.

I do occasionally. I don't like dropping F-bombs, but I have been known to from time to time.

Yes, but never around DH or the kids. Usually, when I'm by myself in the car experiencing some road rage:rolleyes1

My DS got in trouble and kicked off his bus for using a substitute that I allowed him to say. He said "freakin" and the bus driver wrote him up for a 3-day suspension.

That's different from ours! My DS10 is riding the bus this year, and he told me recently the bus driver (a woman) swears. I was shocked and asked him to spell it. He spelled freakin'. I sure was relieved. I still tell him it's not okay for him and have doubts about the bus driver. But I don't really think saying it is a huge deal. Can't believe your son was suspended for it!

I grew up with parents who rarely swore so I don't either. When my mom was REALLY mad she'd say "hells bells" or "damnation". My DH has told me though that my dad swears a lot on the golf course.

My DH used to swear more but gave it up for Lent one year and swears a lot less now. My MIL swears more.

By the way, it's funny how different standards can be for people.

Where we used to live we had a neighbor with kids where my kids used to play, and they were not allowed to even say "swear", as in "I swear I will not do that..." Up until then I thought I was strict with it.

I can't stand that.

I don't really swear, but if I do it's usually just to myself anyway.

I swear at times, but my fiance reminds me of a sailor.

Very, very rarely. And I never use the f-bomb. I just don't like it.
