Do you stay in touch?

When you go away on vacation for ten or more days, or even a week for that matter, do you stay in touch with your friends at home? In this day and age with texting and Facebook, do you check-in at all and say hey to your friends? Or do you take yourself out of the real world completely?

I still FB & text while I am away. When I am on vacation, I just want to get away from my at home/work environment, I don't need to completely break away from my friends and family.

Depends on where my vacation is. For a trip to Disney I will be constantly updating my social media, mostly for family to see my son's first amazing Disney moments. However when we do a Caribbean vacation I bring my phone, which gets put in the room safe and is turned on once daily to check my work email and nothing else. Otherwise we are completely off the grid all week.

No, my vacations are for getting away from the everyday stuff and to spend time with my family. Anything I want to share can wait until we get home.

Still in touch, but not with the same frequency.

Vacation or not, I'm not much of a "keep in touch" person in that I don't make phone calls to relatives all the time just to chat, if I don't have something newsworthy.

If I had good wifi and free time, I'd probably do a little facebooking.

I don't use Face Book or text even when I am home!
If I have a computer with me, which is usually just on Disney vacations, then I do sent emails to BFF. I call my kids. And I read and post on the Dis because I am an early riser and need to keep busy.

If we have access to free wifi we'll usually check our email once a day and send notes to immediate family members. We will usually send a couple of notes to the neighbour who is watching the house/mowing the lawn/snowblowing the driveway for us as well.

Other than that, everything can wait til we return.

At a minimum we would update someone at some point just so they know we are okay. If that is possible. If it isn't, no biggie. If major news happens in our area that would make friends and family wonder if we are safe, we would find a way to update. But we usually travel domestic and this isn't as big of an issue.

We generally let close family members know that we've arrived so they know we're safe & have our contact info (which hotel, etc.). Other than that, no, not really. I stay off Facebook on vacation.

We did text our sons when we went on vacation last month but no one else. We also did nt have free wifi and I don't have facebook anyway. We did the old fashioned way. We sent postcards.

Not normally. I never put anything about being away on social media until after I am back. Cops say otherwise, you are basically telling everyone in the world "I'm away, break into my house"

No! I do hate going through e-mail when we get home, but I just consider it today's version of going through all the mail.

In a word NO!!! I am on vacation

With texting and Facebook we do tend to stay in touch with family at home even more than we did before when we go on vacation.

Pre-cell phones and Facebook we would call family to let them know we got to our destination, then calls would only be made (either way) just for emergencies.

Yep...I"m a social media junkie.....can't imagine waiting to instagram my pics until I got home!! Anyone that follows me on social media instagram/twitter/facebook knows that when I'm gone my house is still occupied by someone since we have 12 animals and someone needs to watch them lol. Plus...if my house is going to get broke in to...I would rather they do it when I'm not home than when I'm home!

I sometimes post to FB and twitter, but I don't have contact with friends or family unless it's an emergency.

you can take the boy out of Ohio but the boy cant live with out constant updates on the Browns and Cavs :rotfl:

I never put anything on FB about being away. I'll read it if there's some down time but i tend to focus on enjoying the vacation rather than worrying about the great meal so and so made last night on the grill. ;)

I do call my elderly parents daily to check and make sure they are OK.

Before I got on Facebook I would send pictures of fun stuff to people I thought would like it. Yes, sometimes it'd be stuff to make them jealous I'm on vacation and they aren't. Now that I'm on Facebook I just post those pictures there.
