Do you spend a lot of money on...

I have very sensitive skin and alot of allergies to soaps. I use noxema to wash my face and lubriderm face moisturizer. I use very little make up and find that cover girl works the best without causing a rash. I don't spend alot of money and look for good sales!

I use noxzema to remove my make-up. I use Neutrogena moisturizers, my neighbor is able to get them at a discount. I've been using sunscreen on my face very day since I was about 26, I think I have relatively few wrinkles for 42, most people thinkI'm younger than I am. I don't think you need to spend a lot of money, just be diligent with the sunscreen and most imporantly don't smoke, that causes lots of wrinkles. My SIL is 5 years younger and looks older than me. I also never tanned as a teen. All my friends who were laying out in the sun used to make fun of me being so white, wearing a hat -- now I'm getting the last laugh. Most of the expensive creams in department stores is packaging and advertising. In fact most factories make an expensive department store brand and also a cheaper drugstore brand under a different name.

I wouldn't say I spend a lot, but what I do spend is 99% on Clinique. I am 31 and have used their 3-step plan since I was a pre-teen and have always had great skin, much of which I account to using their product religiously (Thank You Mom for making me wash my face morning and night!). I buy make-up usually twice a year (hmmmm....think that coincides with bonus time) although sometimes more, and usually spend $60-70 each time. I use all of their products (powder, concealer, foundation, eye shadow, liner, lipstick) except I do like the pink and green bottle of mascara I can get at Target for $2----is that Maybelline or Cover Girl???

Yup, that's Maybelline. I usually wear that but I just bought MAC Pro Lash which I am excited to try.

For skin and face care I use Jurlique products exclusively. I'm "40 something" and have found this line to be incredible for my skin since I started to use it about three years ago. It's expensive, but the products are very concentrated so last a LONG time. So it works out to be not much more expensive than anything from the drugstore, and I've found the results to be dramatic!

I use Lancome makeup. I don't like "drug store" make up in that you can't test it before purchasing it, and colors always end up looking much different once you put them on your skin. So with having to throw away so much because you don't like the color or the way it applies, I think it actually works out to be less expensive to buy department store brands (or Avon/Mary Kay/etc.).

I think I'm middle of the road here as far as spending:

For my SKIN care: I use just plain Dove Bar Soap to wash my face everyday. Then I moisturize with either Aveeno Lotion or some Oil of Olay face cream. Both do the trick and leave my skin VERY soft!

For Make-Up: I will only use the "department" store make-up. I mainly use Lamcome and Estee Lauder. I like Clinique's lipstick, but I don't really buy Clinique for my other stuff.

However, I use minimal to no make up on a daily basis.

My biggest splurge is Avons Anew wrinkle cream. It's $30 and works great. It has erased some lines on my forehead that have been there for 10 years. I use it every night after I wash my face with Oil of Olay face wash for dry skin. $7

For every day face moisturizer I use Oil of Olay sensitive skin with spf30. It's about $10. I don't wear foundation, just a little powder and blush. I use Clinique which lasts forever and costs $20-$25 each. I also love Cliniques lip products, about $10- $12 each.

For eyeshadow, eye liner pencil and mascara I go cheap. Maybelline Sky High Curves for about $6 and Revlon eyeshadow under $10. Eye liner pencils as cheap as I can get usually under $5 each.

I use a mix as well - I go for whatever doesn't bug my sensitive eyes. I try to buy the nice stuff when the store is offering the free gift, so I get additional mascaras and lipsticks. :teeth:

Last year, my new year's resolution was to take better care of my skin, I went to Aveda & bought about $200. in products, within a few weeks my face started getting red, splotchy, itchy, flaky, gross looking. I went to the dermatologist and was told to stop using Aveda that I must be allergic to an ingredient and to use Lubriderm lotion, I still use it and everything is fine. I think to moisturize is the most important factor, regardless of which brand you use. I use the Lubriderm fairly light in the day so I won't look oily but put it on pretty heavy at night. As far as cleanser, I use Dove or H20 products(but I have to order them & forget to).

No matter what I try, I go back to my favorites...

Almay One Coat Mascara...fun colors green, blue
Ultima face powder
Estee Lauder blush
Estee Lauder under eye cream, no foundation, but this works for cover ups as needed
allergic to lipstick, use vaseline only
Oil of Olay spf lotion

I'm 43, so I have prescription Retin A stuff, but am so inconsistent in using it, so don't know if it works

Never remove my make-up before bed, use Tone or Dove for face washing

I'm 45 - an outdoor person who's worn makeup since she was 23 (late bloomer). I am CONSTANTLY told I look 33. Three things really changed my skin recently.

1. Cetaphil!!!! Like one of the other posters...it's recommended by dermatologists (models use it to clean their skin because they remove make-up and get re-made up for photo sessions). They have soap, moisturizers etc.

2. DRINK WATER - that's one of the BEST ways to change your skin. Also eat lots of DARK GREEN leafy foods. If you can't I recommend GREENS FIRST. It give you 10 servings of fruits/veggies everyday (tastes like green tea) I've tried other products but this within one month MINIMIZED fine lines.

3. I use a product I got from a spa ($27 bucks) can be used once a day it's called.Glycolic Exfoliating Wash. From DDF (Doctor's Dermatoloic Formula).

Personally it's been my view that if you have great INSIDE treatments you can get away with using cheaper MAKEUP products because you are creating good SKIN from the inside OUT. Not the reverse. Ok, I'm done flapping!!!! Oh, I use ABOLENE make up remover (walgreens). It's made from natural products and Katharine Hepburn used it too!!!

Have a great day!

I agree with Peggy Jo! I have used the expensive moisturizers and they have done no better than Cetaphil for me. I love Cetaphil!! I get mine at at B.J.'s. It's a good price most anywhere, but it's even better at B.J.'s. I had a lady stop me as I was headed for the checkout and asked me where I found it. I told her, and she was chatty and told me that her dermatologist recommended she use it (among other things). Nice to know. :)

Sunscreen! I apply it everyday. Good sunglasses to prevent squinting in the sun....

I also agree with the water and working on the skin from the inside out. I don't eat as many dark leafy veggies as I should, but the water I do drink. I had a facial some time ago and the lady complimented me on my skin. It made me feel good. I didn't expect it from someone sees so many people daily.

I use minimal make up. Clinique concealer, and lipstick most days. Never liked the feeling of a foundation on my skin.

Great topic!

Just things you can buy in CVS! I don't wear lots of makeup. Eyeliner, blush & lipstick. I do use moisturizer but it is usually Neutrogena Visibly Firm. Right now I ran out so I'm actually using sunscreen.... It will do until I get some more.

Another cheap one here, but I want that to change. I'll buy a little something Clinique here and there when they have the free gifts, but nothing on a regular basis, and a lot of the times they don't work out and I wind up giving them away.

I finally went to the dermatologist for the first time yesterday... yea! I had a lot of issues to go over (I've had eczema all these years... who knew?), so hopefully I'll get some info on getting on a good skin care plan during the next visit. I really know nothing about the subject; never been the type to subscribe to "Cosmo." :o I'll have to save this thread and maybe try some of the recommendations.

I use Johnsons Baby Oil in the shower for my body.
I used Clinique from the time I was 16 until about 35. Then I felt I needed a little extra something to really moisturize so I tried many products and I ended up with Natural Advantage. I've been using NA for 3 years now and I love it. I order it online at their website. I use the face wash, day, night and eye area moisturizer. I have really dry, sensative skin and this works great for me. It's kept those lines away too!
