Do you speed?

I am a chronic speeder. I'm always in the frame of mind the speed limit is at least 5mph higher then what is posted. I get mad when someone is going THE speed limit.

While renewing my tabs today I noticed an intersting chart.

Time Save Per Trip at Different Speeds

Trip Miles-----45mph vs 55mph-----55 vs 60-----60 vs 65

----5-----------1 minute ------------27 sec. -------23 sec.

----10----------2 min. 25 sec. -------55 sec. -------46 sec.

----20----------4 min. 50 sec. ----1 min. 49 sec. ---1 min. 32 sec.

I was amazed. Here I am impacient to get home evey night, speeding, and getting stressed over slow drivers - when in reality I am not saving any time at all - maybe a few minutes. I need to learn to relax.

Does anyone else have Chronic Lead-Foot Syndrome?

I speed. Typically I'm 5 to 10mph over posted speed limits. Except in school zone, work zone (when workers are present), or neighborhoods. Then I'm driving the posted limit.

I don't stress about time savings or anything. I'll get there when I get there. I'm probably one of the calmest people on the road.

I never speed in residential areas, school zones, or construction zones, ever. On busy roads, I'll do 5 to 10 over. On the expressway, it depends. Open road, I've got a lead foot. Heavy traffic, I stick to the right lane and keep up with traffic. I never weave in and out though. And I never get mad at those that do the speed limit (however those that go SLOWER than the speed limit are fair game!).

i never, EVER speed...

:lmao:
omg...did I say that with a straight face?

Actually, no.

I got slammed with a BIG speeding ticket recently, and now I am incredibly conscious of my speed.

But I used to (obviously!). :)

Around 10 over on the highway (65 in 55 standard, 72 in 65). I always drive around 1/4 - 1/2 mile ahead of my car so I'm prepaired for traffic. When I first started dating my wife, she was one of those people who only drove a car vehicle or two ahead of her. By this I mean, she was paying attention to the vehicle immediately in front, but was fairly oblivious to anything else happening down the road. I finally broke her of that habit and she's been a lot better to ride with.

never ever in residential neighborhood, but when the 405 isn't a parking lot I go for it!! :moped:

Yes. In fact I had quite the moment yesterday when I saw a cop car next to me in the left lane. I thought I was going to get pulled over (going 10+ over the limit at the time). Turns out it was just a off duty cop from a different area going just as fast as I was and looking to pass me.

Yes I do. Here in Atlanta you would literally get run off the interstate if you went the speed limit. Of course not during rush hour—then we’re all just stopped. :teeth:

On surface streets I don’t go more than 10 over, and I drive slowly in neighborhoods and parking lots.

I used to. My ex was a cop--we lived in a small town and I knew every cop on the force. Then I used to speed and continued even after the divorce. :teeth:

When I moved, I started paying attention to my speed and driving the speed limit. Now I have a teenager who just got her permit. I get really annoyed when people tailgate her when she's driving the speed limit--she's only on the surface streets at this point. I'd prefer that she not get a speeding ticket before she's even gotten her license. :teeth:

I am usually pretty much a lead foot. Recently though, one of my neighboring cities installed speed cameras at busy intersections. They are going to start off with a 12mph grace before giving a ticket, then 10, then 8. Just like the red light cameras, the ticket will not go against your record. The city will mail the ticket to the car's owner. I personally believe that receiving a ticket in the mail 2 weeks after the incident happened is not nearly as habit-changing as being pulled over and issued a ticket on the spot. I just guess I prefer the law to be carried out the old-fashioned way.

This is me except I do 10 mph to 15 mph over the speed limit. Local police officers here give you 15 (except if they are a traffic unit, luckily their cars look different, lol). The day after Thanksgiving I did get pulled over going through a work zone (no workers present) but I didn't get a ticket. It helps with you are married to the Man. :rotfl2:

And JenLoy, my DH says tickets are an education. So yeah two weeks later won't have the same impact.

I just can't help it. I really don't try to speed it just happens. Before you know it I am speeding. :confused3

I almost always am 5mph over the speed limit on normal roads. Between 5 and 10 on the highway, although it's sometimes closer to 15 or 20 depending on what stretch of highway I'm on (the highway right near my house switches from 65 to 55, but no one ever changes speed), and how fast traffic is going. I don't want to be pulled over, but I also don't want to get killed. I am not a fan of driving super fast, so I actually avoid the highway at all costs during certain times of the day. The commuters around here are usually doing 80 in the 55
In my town, I could actually get out of a speeding ticket if I ever got one (it pays to have your father's college drinking buddy as the police chief) but I'd prefer not to test that out. So I stick to 5 over, and have never gotten in trouble. 5 over is actually a pretty low speed in my area. Everyone drives super fast.

On parkways and expressways I speed. But in my defense, if you don't do at least 10mph over the speed limit you are roadkill.

On town roads I don't speed, there are too many kids out. On the slightly more main roads I tend to speed a little as to not hit all the lights. I have never gotten a ticket and I am cautious of my surroundings. It probably also helps that the police here drive vehicles with bright reflective orange license plates that you can see from miles away.

::yes:: yep, same with me.

On the highway I go 5-6 mph over, but in town I go the speed limit exactly.

If I'm on a highway where everyone is going a consistent speed, I do try to keep up, but I also try to stay out of a "pack."

I always do around 80 on the highway.

I did get a ticket a couple of years ago coming home from a friends house out of state. By the time I got back to MA, I was still going the speed that I got pulled over for, but was getting passed! :furious:
