Do you skip FR/SA nights?

I was curious if many DVCers skip FR/SA night stays to conserve points?
I've resort hopped in the past and I could see myself doing 2 days at a value (or even off-property...did I say that out loud?) and then 5 weekdays at DVC.
:cool1:

Try one of the fine Universal hotels on the weekends. You can often get good rates and take advantage of the unlimited Fastpass-style perk that's only available to their resort guests.

No, when we purchased, we looked at the point cost of a week, and considered that when purchasing rather than the point cost of each day. I didn't pay all that money to stay in a value room or even a moderate, so it's not something I would even consider doing unless I decided last minute to add a night and that was all that was available.

To us its not worth the hassle of packing up and unpacking again just to save a few points.

I'm on vacation and on vacation to relax and have fun. Not to check in and check out of resorts. Plan your vacation around the points you have.

When we decide to do this, we simply arrive on Sunday instead of Saturday.

yes :confused3 no :confused3 maybe :confused3 I don't know :confused3

what was the question again? :lmao:

all kidding aside, we try all the resorts but for Fri/Sat nts then on to DVC. We try not to go to parks on weekends because of crowds.

If we have pts that need to be used then we booked Fri/Sat

IMO I won't waste 42 pts for say BWV standard studio for F/S nts in Oct when for 3 more pts I can stay 5 nts Sun/. Thur the second wk

EXample 1: Oct 8/12 = 45 pts , then CSR 2 nts cash Fri/Sat then Oct 15/20 =45 pts
total pts 90 + 2 nts cash ( discount rate I hope) total nts 12

Example 2: Oct 8 /14 total pts 87 total nts 7

I'm sorry but for 3 more pts and paying cash (maybe $300 for the middle Weekend) we would rather have 12 nts VS 7 nts

As far as moving from resort to resort we don't mind it.

I know others will totally disagree but that's OK :goodvibes :goodvibes

We try to book our stays with only one weekend in it because we really don't like moving and doing all the packing and unpacking. We do try every once in a while to lengthen our trip at the end by staying one more day at one of the value resorts, but that isn't to save our points, it's because we there is no availability at our resort.

We skip weekends but we live only a few hours away. It is a good opportunity to try other resorts. Another method some employ is to do 2 weeks with one weekend.

We also have a very good friend of ours that never is there on a weekend because she likes to go there really often, at least 4 times a year, and wants to save those high points for another stay. It's what ever makes you the happiest or sometimes what you can afford, meaning either points or money.

No. We purchased enough points to stay a full 7 nights during the seasons we would travel the most.

Not a big fan of moving.

If we wanted to break that trip down to 2 weeks we have enough points to stay 2 Sun-Thurs weeks. At that point we would move on weekends but so far just haven't done that yet.

And the only other time would be if we were in a point shortage. But our main objective wasn't to conserve points on weekends but to stay the full 7 nights.

Yes, I do this all the time. Our usual plan is to arrive on a Thursday or Friday and spend 2 or 3 nights at a resort other than our DVC "home" for that trip. If we're staying at BCV, we might begin at Wilderness Lodge. If it's a VWL trip, we'll either stay at the BC a few days if it's warm enough to swim, or AKL because it's another favorite of ours. It's easy for us to move, so we do it frequently on our WDW trips. I think it's a case or either/or - you're either comfortable moving or you're not!!!!

When we bought our points we made sure that we bought enough so that we could stay fri/sat nights. I don't like the idea of having to unpack then pack and unpack again. We won't even split our stays for now, just for that reason. We are on vacation and don't want to bother wasting time. I wouldn't put down anyone for doing it, that's up to them, but for us we won't. My DH only gets 2 weeks vacation, so we pack in our vacation for a whole week so that he has his other time to go hunting. :thumbsup2

Prior to purchasing DVC, our WDW trips were usually 5- or 6-night stays so we bought enough points to cover one weekend night per trip. But we stay in a studio or a 1BR and generally go when point costs are lower so it's not too bad.

Maybe if you substituted the word "few" with "handful"...

Minimally, you will save 9 points per night at Walt Disney World Resorts (up to a maximum of over 50).

We do. We have two kids who absolutely LOVE the values. My husband and I don't mind staying at Pop or the All Stars for a few nights, it makes us appreciate our DVC accomodations all the more! In December however, we are staying at Pop for all seven nights because we are don't have enough points and since its the kids' Christmas present, we let them pick. I think as our kids get older the values wont' be appealing and we will end up in a two bedroom DVC for the whole stay. And probably we won't go to WDW as much so we will have enough points to do that. I guess my point is that the practice of how you use your points can change as your life situation does.

We always check in on a Sunday and stay the entire stay at DVC. We drive from Wisconsin and always allow a day or two more than the 1,300 mile trip take, so we book POR for the extra nights. If travel plans are altered, we can cancel nights at POR without losing any points and without purchasing any insurance. This January/February we will stay over three weekends at BCV. I don't know what it would be like to move in and out, it's bad enough just changing rooms at the same resort. :thumbsup2

:wave2: Hi, DVC Grandpa! Are you Joe?

To the subject at hand: I have enough pts to use on the weekends, but it just goes against the grain to use that many pts for two nights, so I pay cash thru CRO with the AP rate. It's usually a very good deal. This summer a studio is $159-179 per night, so the two weekend nights cost under $400, and I get another entire vacation with the saved points! :teeth: I don't have to move, either, so it's the best of both worlds for me. ;)

Mine too. In fact, we actually stop by the All-Star Movies and Sports nearly every trip.

It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to stay there.

This question always causes an argument between myself and DW. It is not a question of having enough points to stay the two weekend nights but saving points for a rainy day (spur of the moment trip). My DW would like to spend as much time at Disney while we are there and I prefer to save the points for multiple trips. Sometimes, I give in and we will be staying Friday night on our trip in one week to BWV. Other times, DW gives in and we have saved enough points to go for 4 days in December to GF and have a GV booked at OKW for April -- three trips in 10 months without borrowing points
