Do you reward for good grades?

My parents always gave me something for getting good grades. Honestly, I didn't do it for the money, but the money was nice.

We don't pay for grades and nor do we punish, learning is something we enjoy in our family. No money needed!!!!

We don't pay for good grades - just tell them how proud we are of them and to keep up the good work.
We don't "punish" for bad grades - just work with them on whatever subject they are having trouble with.

We started to pay for grades in middle school. They have trimesters, so this is 3x's a year:

$10 for an A
$5 for a B
$0 for a C
-$10 for a D
-$20 for a F

Some kids are more motivated on their own than others, and DS needed a little push. This has worked well for us.

I don't believe in paying for grades or for chores. Good grades are just something you are resonsible for when you are in school. That is your "job" in life. to pay attention and do your work to the best of your ability. I'm okay with the grades as long as they are above a C, if I know she has been struggling wiht the work then I am even ok wiht the C. If it because she just isn't doing the work then a C is bad.

Chores are to be done cuz you are part of the family not because you get paid. I don't get paid to do chores, why should my kids. It is my job as part of the family to get it done.

ROFL, I laugh, because no, my parents would have never paid me for my grades. In fact, when I didn't get straight A's, I never got punished but rather the whole we're disappointed in you guilt trip.

Yes, we pay for grades. I look at it this way. My DS is 15 and DD is 13. If they spend a lot of time working on their school work, this leaves them little time to earn extra money by doing odd jobs and babysitting. DD has had to turn down several babysitting jobs due to school.

Therefore, I feel that as long as they are working hard on their grades, they should be compensated. We do $20 for A and $15 for B. Nothing for C and below. Although, we are discussing the "payback" for lesser grades.

I have 3 kids with very different abilities as far as grades go, so no, we never paid for good grades. My parents never paid me for my A's either, so I guess I'm following my family's way of doing things. The ones who have the high grades get my praise and excitement, and the one who has the average grades gets my praise and excitement over his effort too. It sucks enough for him to work hard and not get the A's, I'm not going to make him miss out on money too.
