I don't even take back gifts I don't like or have no use for!

So, do you return things you have used?
LOL, no. I am with you, I don't even like to return things I really should return. (unused) I usually just end up gving them away or storing them for some weird reason.

I HATE having to visit the 'customer service counter', I always feel like I am going to the principals office and I have to come up with a great excuse for why I am not keeping the item. And the dumb paperwork. Sheesh, it's like filling out a job application. Just not worth it to me, LOL.

You are perfectly describing me. :rotfl: We have a pretty good collection of unused stuff on the top shelf of the closet.

Ok...I have to say, my mom is the queen of returning things she bought with the intention of returning. It drives me crazy and I will not go in with her to do it. The worst part of it is that she learned this trick by working in retail.

She will buy pretty much anything and later return it. She has the whole thing down to an art. It's really embarrassing. She is the reason I will not return anything unless I really, really have to.

(love her, but she is a closet 'renter' thief)

I have a friend who does this. In fact when my car was acting wonky in California, I bought one of those battery jumpers... you charge it and it will jump the battery... she tried to convince me I should return it to Walmart once my car was fixed.
While I do not need it *now* I may down the line, so I kept it. But I tend to be a bit of a packrat :D

She on the other hand buys with the intent to return... "Walmart will take back anything in any condition". I hope I am never with her when she does this.

My son hates to shop, so I will buy items in different sizes, colors, and styles, knowing that I will return some of them. But he doesn't really wear them; he only tries them on.

This is what I do for my husband and son.

Wow...I had no idea so many people did this...no wonder prices are so high!

It would never occur to me to do this.

I do this for DS14 too.

My sister returns EVERYTHING!!!! Every Christmas she returns probably 90% of their gifts, wrong color, wrong brand, nothing ever is right. Her inlaws just give her cash and then she complains that she doesn't have anything to open  . I just stopped buying her things all together.

No. The only time I return something is if it doesn't fit. I can't try on pants/jeans in the store so I take them home. If they don't fit, they go back.

At least the big box hardware stores have gotten smart and make it known about no returns for generators after hurricane season ends. I know that the Electronics chains have a big problem with this concerning large screen televison systems around super bowl time.

No. The only time I return things is if there is something defective with it, it's not the right size, or I'm not completely satisfied with my purchase. :)

Nope only time I return something is if it is the wrong size (clothing) or is defective/broken.

HEY does this mean I can return frog since he is broken? :lmao:
 :faint:

I voted "other." The only time I buy something with the intention of returning it is with clothes. For example, I found a shirt at Target but I needed someone else's opinion about which size looked better on. I bought both shirts, then returned the one that didn't fit as well. I wouldn't return something after using it though unless it was defective or had a problem.

One person bought a $1500 plasma TV for a party, kept it a few weeks because they were "attached to it" , and then returned it for a refund. Did I say that the party was an outdoor bonfire party, and the TV smelled like smoke?!

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just "rent" a plasma? $1500 is a lot of money to come up with knowing that you don't plan on keeping the tv.

As for me, no, I never bought anything with the intention of returning it. I only returned things that were the wrong color or size.

I don't return things if they've been worn or used. I will occasionally pick up something for one of the kids and it doesn't fit them so I'll take it back. But not if they've worn it.
If I use an appliance and it doesn't work I'll take it back, but just to exchange it for one that does work.

In some cases I don't see how people could do anything else. How do you know if you like it, or if it works as advertised?

If the product or store advertises a trial period, I have no guilt in bringing it back, even heavily used.

On the other hand, there are people who buy things with every intention of using it and bringing it back. Clothes, TV's (especially at Superbowl time), furniture, and even cars. It's why in many cases honest people have to deal with re-stokcing fees even when there was an honest mistake made.

Returned them later that night and there was a women there with a container of eyeshadow that was so used you could see the metal in the bottom of the tin. The clerk said, "I'm sorry I can't return something that is so used". The women said, "I don't like the color now that my tan is fading, I have the receipt". I could hardly keep a straight face and left before the discussion got too heated.

:sad2: :sad2: Honest customers complain about store policies being too strict with returns. People like that woman are the reason behind the tougher return policies.

I guess I should have answered for the second and third option. They are both true. I don't buy with the intention of returning an item used, but I have done it at least once. Anyway I made my DH return it and he even told them the REAL reason..., "my wife wouldn't let me keep it!" :rotfl2: :lmao:

It was the ugliest darn TV stand ever made in the world. Why he thought he was going to put our brand new huge TV on it was beyond me. It was silver laminate and ugly as sin. I told him that if the store wouldn't take it back it could rot on the side of the road for all I cared but I was NOT going to have that THING in my house.

I have never reacted that way to anything he has purchased in 15 years of being married and I hope never to react that way again! Never say never, I know, I know...

And I have on a few (very few) occasions bought (iow "rented") something I knew I was going to return after I used it once. If it's still in new and resellable condition, what's the big deal?

because they put the item back on the rack. Then I walk in and think I am buying a new pair of pants that you've already had your booty in for a full day. Ick ick ick.

When I was in high school working my mall job a lady bought a top and then walked to the customer service desk and returned it. I saw her do this and was so confused. She did not give a reason for the return. We gave her the money back. All us dumb teenagers said why did she buy it and then walk the 10 feet to return it?
