We were in a cute little store that specializes in nostalgia--especially candy that you never see anymore.
DH and I started talking about some of the things we used to enjoy and can not find anymore.
A couple of my old favorites, I'd love a Big Boy hamburger--I also thought Coke in 16 ounce bottles
was especially good.
DH misses Campfire marshmellows, Mr Salty pretzels, Big Boy, 7-up candy bars, neopolitan ice cream bars sold at Woolworths 5 & 10

I miss Woolworths too, you could buy anything in there.

With this being Coke country here in Atlanta you can still find those Coke bottles at a few places. They are expensive but they are they best. :)

We can still get Campfire marshmallows here. I really miss Coke in 16 oz. glass bottles. It just tasted better.

I have Campfire marshmallows in my cabinet right now.

I loved Woolworth's, too. Remember going to the little "restaurant" inside and popping a balloon to see what price you would pay for your banana split? Fond memories of going there with my dad.

Also, I can remember buying my goldfish there, too.;)

Ahhhhh, Coke in a glass bottle.....

Reminds me of the hot Virginia summers I spent at my grandparents.

Dr. Pepper in a bottle too.

we used to have "Jimmy's" uptown... it was a soda fountain on one side and you could walk through the door to the liquor store... we felt so grown up when we stepped into the liquor store on a dare.
Vanilla cokes at the soda fountain, then filling a paper bag with all the mint julips, banana splits penny candy we could fit!!!

So many good memories - good times back then, too!

I remember buying Coke or Orange Crush in bottles, ice cold out of the soda machine. They cost a dime. Right next to the machine was a wooden crate with little compartments that held the bottle. If you drank your soda and returned the bottle, you got a nickel back! :p We used to buy our soda out of the machine at the gas station owned by a guy named George. The gas station was at the top of a hill. So, we kids renamed the road (9th Avenue) "George's Hill". I forgot the other night and called it that and my mom said, "Huh?" :teeth:

Ahhhh, the memories.

Remember 1-2-3 Jello? That's what I miss! Strawberry flavor to be exact! :)

I so miss Coke in the bottle. You can get the 10 ounce bottles here, but they're a fortune. Every once in a while I buy them though, nothing beats a bottle of Coke with little crystals of ice on the top.

Thank you for the link to Hometown Favorites, I'll check that out~~
I had to come back with a couple more. A&P Spanish Bar Cake. Although I was an adult, I loved Funny Face
"With It Watermelon" drink mix. I even had the matching watermelon cup to drink from.
What were the others? Rootin Tootin Raspberry,Goofy Grape---
Seems like everyone likes Coke in a 16 ounce bottle.

We have a few Big Boys around here... even a couple with statues still, I think.

We have alot of big boys here, Just ate there the other day. They have the best burgers.

I was just thinking about the Woolworths I used to go to, and order a Milkshake and a Cheeseburger, that was the BOMB!::yes:: Back than I could digest the dairy.......:o

Funny Face! At my parents house, there are some of the cups that you could order - the grape & orange ones. Love those things.

The flavors were: Choo Choo Cherry, Jolly Olly Orange, Goofy Grape, Rootin'-Tootin' Raspberry, Loud Mouth Punch, "With It" Watermelon, and Lefty Lemonade, Ruddi Tutti-Frutti, and Freckle Face Strawberry.

I miss Marathon candy bars!

I miss that Thrifty store ice cream...remember that store? They had the funky shaped scoop that made the ice cream come out tube like instead of a ball, and it was, I dunno, like .80 for 3 scoops? And this was in the mid 80's!!!!!!!

Fizzies - Instead of dropping them in a glass of water like you were supposed to, we used to pop the tablet in our mouths & let them fizz on our tongues. :p

1-2-3 Jello....DS loved the orange & the cherry.

I never liked Coke when I was little. Instead I'd get A-Treat Fruit Punch in the 16 oz bottle. It was like fizzy Hawaiian Punch. Mmmmm! Why were those soda machines more fun than the dumb ones with the cans seem to be???

Woolworth's memories :teeth: My best friend & I would stop there after school for a grilled cinnamon bun & to pick up the latest 45. :teeth: We were on our way to her Dad's shop for a ride home after staying for extracurricular activities.

Does anyone remember the Old El Paso tortilla shells in the can? My mother would fry them in oil and then fold them over to make tacos. They were so good!! I have yet to find anything that comes close to the flavor. Sadly, Old El Paso doesn't make them anymore. The website informed me that they were "unhealthy" because you had to fry them.
