A few might still be around in your area, but where I live, they are long gone!

Merry Go Round

5-7-9

Famous Maid

Lady Bug

Marianne

The Wild Pair

Jeans Barn

Litz Brothers

John Wanamaker

Korvette

Can you thinkg of any others?

My cousin used to work at a marianne store. When it closed she got a job at a childrens place store. She just kept hoping from one mall store to another when they closed. At least she got to commute to the same place everyday. We used to have alot of caldors here, now its kohls. Also bradlees which some are kohls locations now,

I just remembered two more:

Atlantic Thrift

and

Two Guys

I remember some of those. I also remember Ormond and Jean Nicole.

The only one I have heard of is 5-7-9 and there is still one at our mall.

I remember those two as well!

I just thought of another two:

Woolworth

and

Woolco

What about Buster Brown Shoes? I remember they had their own store, and my Mom would buy my brother's shoes there.

I remember Zayres, but not Venture.

I'm sure some of the stores I've listed were a regional thing, what you might've had, we didn't and vice versa.

Whatever happened to the Magic Pan restaurant? Are they still around anywhere?

Grants and Kresge's.

Someone else mentioned Two Guys--I used to love that store--they had the best toys!

I also remember Robert Hall and Grants.

Robert Hall! My Mom used to buy my school clothes there!

There was a shoe store called New York City Shoes that was popular for a while, all their shoes cost $9.99! I had pumps in every imaginable color!

I also remember a store in Philly called John's Bargain Store, it was a dime store type of operation.

I remember Korvette's from NY and Zayre's from Atlanta.

Does anyone remember Phar-Mor?

Builders Square

Ames

Pace

Memco - original warehouse club

In the DC area:

Dart Drug

Peoples

Hechingers

Crown Books

Trak Auto

I guess it is hard to compete in retail :(

Lest we forget:

Chess King

Now run to your closet, grab that Member's Only jacket and burn it!

RickinNYC,

I better call my Dad and tell him to burn his teal color Members Only jacket-YUCK! :rotfl: :rotfl: (although it may cause him to lose his membership in the Larry Manetti fan club.) :teeth: (did anyone get that?)

Chess King! How could I have forgotten that one!

Stewart's.

Fancy department store in Louisville, KY. When I was growing up, it was always a special treat when my aunt would drive over, pick up my mom and me, and take us for a day of shopping there (my mom didn't drive in the city).

The store's been gone about 15 years, now, and my aunt died in September a year ago . . .:( :( :(

Also Kaufmann's.

I think Bacon's is gone now too.

And isn't either L.S. Ayers or Lazarus gone?
