Do you remember these stores?

Here's a list of stores I remember, and STILL MISS:

Clover

Woolworths

Caldor

Bradlees

Sound Odyssey

West Coast Video

I had friends that worked in Hit Or Miss and Units.

I also miss Garden Botanika (they are only mail order now)

Cindy B, I thought Zipperhead was still around? I was on South St last summer- thought I saw it!

For grocery stores, I remember Pantry Pride and Penn Fruit. They may have just been Philadelphia area stores, not sure.

Yeah, I remember them! Also Shop N Bag and the A & P

also Kiddie City toys.

House of Bargains- my childhood wardrobe came from there.

Krass Brothers (philly area remembers their weird tv ads)

Wasn't the Bon Ton called Pomeroy's one time, or vice versa?

Basco/Best

Guadios (sp?), was garden store like Frank's.

I remember a few of these. Most seem to be regional and not from around here.

TG&Y brings back memories. We had several in our area. They've been gone for years.

I've been married for almost 20 years. Our first date was to a play and for dinner at The Magic Pan. I'll never forget it. It was one of DH's favorite places to eat.

I remember a restaurant named Kings. Anyone else eat at one of those? I don't know if they were a chain. They used to have a little fried cheese sandwich appetizer that was so good!

I'm also thinking of Kip's Big Boy, Sandy's, Burger Chef, Safeway, Wackers, Mr. Steak. I know I'll think of more if I just ponder this a while.

Also Kaufmann's.

I think Bacon's is gone now too.

And isn't either L.S. Ayers or Lazarus gone?

Deb, Kaufmann's and L.S. Ayers are alive and well. Or I sure hope so, they sign my paycheck each week.

They are both owned by the May Company, Famous Barr. There is about a dozen different stores owned by them. Hechts, is another name.

Lazarus is still going too. They pulled out of my mall, but there are a few in town. Macy's just bought them up.

Gaudio's was also a hair salon chain in Burlington County (Medford, Mt. Laurel, etc.)

There is still a Bon Ton in Pennsauken NJ

How about Crazy Eddie?

Last time I was there it was closed up! (But that was longer than last summer-it may have been renovations)

I also worked at Wall to Wall Sound and Video... remember that?

Fast Food Places that have gone by the wayside

Geno's
Hardee's
Kenny Rogers Roasters
(this one restaurant was all of these things) it is now a Friendly's

Jack in the Box (now a carwash)
Chi-Chi's (now a Bucca De Beppa)
Casa Lupita (now a Lonestar)

Didn't the real "Crazy Eddie", an Arabic guy, get in trouble with the law or something?

YES HE DID! One of my hubby's friends worked with this guy. This guy used to work at the Crazy Eddies in Cherry Hill NJ.

This guy used to tell us about how he would get insane bonuses in his check all the time like thousands of dollars per week. ONe time they gave him and his girlfriend a trip to Jamaica for "sales records".

Apparently the owner was doing some unethical business and would "launder" money through employees. (hence the big bonuses/suprise trips)

I actually hated that store, they always followed me around.

Lord and Taylor

Lord & Taylor is still going strong. I think they did close all or most of the Florida stores.

I also worked at Wall to Wall Sound and Video... remember that?

Isn't Coconuts gone also?

I thought there was still a Sam Goody in the Moorestown Mall. (at least it was there back in January!)

Gaudio's, I think DH and I bought our first Christmas tree there!

There also used to be a carpet dealer called "Big Marty's."

Anyone in the Philly area remember a dive shopping center called "Jerry's Corner?" Another Jerry's Corner type of place in Delaware County was called the "Bazaar." Those two places were like the first "malls."

And I do remember Crazy Eddie from when we lived up there!

We had a Chi-Chi's, Arlans, Hardees, Casa Bonita (although I know they still have one in Denver)

I remember TG&Y. When they went out of business I bought most of the things I would need to go to college. Big K also was in the area and went out of business.
We had a Loveman's, Pizitz, and Dunavants that are no more. At the old Huntsville Mall there was a Tiffany's bakery that was out of this world. All the Hickory Farms stores also closed in the area. They set up a little stand at Christmas and that is it. Use to love the samples. We no longer have Alberson's grocery stores either.

We still have Chi Chi's and Hardee's too.

We still have Hardees, but our Chi-Chi's closed down years ago.
