Do you regret your tattoo?

I don't have any, but I am curious. How old are those of you who do not regret them? I live in Florida. People here wear shorts and short sleeves year round. I see a lot of tattoos. I see a lot of tattoos on older people. Believe me, many of them don't look good. As you age, the elasticity of your skin lessens and the tattoos tend to sag. I wonder if you will feel the same when you reach your 60s or 70s. I'm not trying to start anything, I'm just curious.

I have a sister in law who is a nurse. She has always thought about getting a tatoo. She says every time she gets close to getting one she sees an older patient with a saggy tatoo and it reminds her why she doesn't already have one.

I am 41 and have always liked looking at tattoos. BUT, up until recently I have been the biggest chicken.
In a couple weeks, I am going to get my first tattoo. A tattoo that isn't for th trend of it, but something that actually means something to me.
ANd with my personality and confidence, when I get older and it sags along with the rest of me, I am not going to care about it. The tattoo will represent a time in my life and I will say this used to be a tattoo of a and tell the story behind it.

Yes. I am too old to even consider it, but I'm glad I never did it. Not long ago, I saw a man at the grocery store. He had a tattoo on his arm. Due to excessive tanning and sagging skin, I couldn't even tell what it was and I was standing right next to him.

I saw a woman at one of the theme parks a couple of months ago. She was a large woman with a lot of cellulite. She had a tattoo on her leg. I'm sure it was a different situation when she got the tattoo, but it looked really bad. It was some type of fairy, only it was all bumpy and stretched. Not attractive at all.

People just have to remember that skin does change and your tattoo will change with it.

Some of us hope to not get all wrinkly as we age, or we get tats in places that tend to sag less.

I absolutely do not regret my tat, nor can I see myself ever regretting it. It has special meaning to me and I waited a loooooooooooong time to get it. I was 31 when I finally got inked for the first time, I'm currently planning my second and considering a 3rd, whether or not I get the third depends but I will the second one. The one I have now is a tribal butterly "tramp stamp" on my lower back, it's pretty and easy to cover if necessary. The other one I want is a Tink with flowers and vines and my girls intials, that is a work in progress but I can't see myself regretting it at all.

I also enjoy giving myself Henna tattoos, I draw on my hands, feet and legs with Henna and like the results I get. Luckily I work in the music industry so tats & piercings are common, but I haven't gone "overboard" at all and I'm comfortable with what I have.

Mark Wahlberg (Marky Mark) just had all of his zapped off.

I don't find them attractive, but I think that people aren't getting tattooes to be attractive to other people, anyway, seems like more of a personal expression thing. I'm just not into permanently bumper stickering my body.

The only one I ever saw that I thought looked interesting was an ultraviolet tattoo-invisible in normal light:

Do it, do it, do it! ;)
I know, I'm a bad influence. Hey, you only live once so do what you can is my line of thinking.

For the OP, I absolutely do not regret my tattoo. To regret my tattoo would be regretting my battle with cancer. While it's the worst thing that has ever happened to me, it has shaped me in so many ways. I know what's important, I know to not take things for granted, and I now know what I want to do in life.

I too got my tattoo after my own battle with cancer. I figured if I was going to have my radiation tatoos I might as well have something to celebrate my survival other than a bunch of blue dots!

You make an excellent point. I think that many people rush into getting thier tatoos. I think that with any tatoo there is one key component: location, location, location! Young people want it seen - but like you mentioned it might not be so pretty 60 years later.

I hope that I make to my 60s or 70s to regret my tatoo. After two battles with cancer I never take anything for granted anymore and if all I have to worry about at that age is my tatoo looking bad then I will be truly blessed!

At 36 I do not regret my tatoo but it is on my left shoulder balde, where my scar starts from when they removed my lung. It is not visible unless I am wearing a swim suit or one of the two shirts I own that reveal it - otherwise it is completely covered up.

I got one at 15, and yes, I regret it. Someone asked me about it today infact because they couldn't figure out what it was!!! My other tat I just got a year ago, and I love it.

LOL...My ex husband got a Tweety bird tattoo on his arm when he was 16. Finally, in his late 20s, he got it covered up with a sun and tribal band. Much more 'adult' looking :lmao:

DS had a "Fox racing" logo on his arm. Last year, he had it 'fixed' and has a tribal band now. Much nicer ;)

People who have done what I'm heading for....

I don't regret *that* I got a tattoo. And for several years I didn't regret what I got. It marks a moment in my life, definitely.

My then best friend had transferred to a different college. We were 21 (actually I think she was 22 by then). She called and said she was coming down for the weekend, and that we'd be getting tattooes. I said OK. Even as we were on our way to the (scary) tattoo artist we didn't know what we'd get, just that it would be on our right ankles. Finally we decided we'd use the pattern on her pants (very early 90s, time of patterned pants), a purple, gold, and orange flower design. So we did it.

And someday it's going to become part of a Celtic design, b/c it just seems silly now.

As for saggy skin, I do think that most people know that's going to happen. But if someone really wants one, the idea of it looking odd when they are much older just doesn't matter to the decades of happiness it's going to give them.

Now...at 60, my dad started getting them. He has our names on his arms inside of some flowery design. I *hate* it. I wouldn't mind it if my name were left off (though it's really ugly IMO), but he wanted his wife and all his kids...I just do NOT like being named on his skin, and wouldn't want to be named on anyone's skin. Wish he'd asked me first.

I'm 28 (almost 29). My butterfly on my chest has definitely got slightly distorted from having children, but the only person who sees it is me or my DH anyway, lol. My other tats are on my back and arm, so not places that show a lot or will sag much. But, I hope by the time I'm older and the tats may have faded or sagged, I will be comfortable enough with my body not to care....or at least too conservative to let them show!
