Do you receive an on board credit, if so booked through Disney or travel agent

We are planning a cruise and was wondering if anyone received an on board credit through their travel agent or through Disney. Most of our cruises we did get a credit but none so far have been a Disney cruise. Thanks in advance.

We are getting OBC through our TA. A lot of TA's offer OBC for Disney cruises.

On Disney it's pretty much through a travel agent or by booking a subsequent cruise while on board (the credit is on the subsequent cruise). They don't need the incentives other lines do to fill their ships.

For a first cruise with Disney, you can get OBC through a TA only.

While on your Disney cruise, you can do an 'on board booking'(OBB) and either book a new cruise or a placeholder cruise (to be used on a cruise within 24 mths and you are charged a $250 refundable deposit) that will give you 10% off that next cruise and an OBC of either $100 (under 7 days) or $200 (7 days or more). OBB's are subject to blockout dates--normally around holidays and 2 day sailings. With your OBB, if you list your TA or transfer it to a TA within 30 days you can get OBC from your TA as well. A lot of TA's will offer 1/2 the OBC they give to new bookings due to their reduced commission for these bookings. Costco is one that will give you the same amount back on a Costco gift card after the cruise, I believe people have said it's 8% of the cruise cost?

The travel agency I have used for 5 of my 7 Disney Cruises (MEI/Mouse Fan Travel) doesn’t give onboard credit. Two of the cruises had to be booked with that agency to participate in onboard group events. I booked 3 subsequent cruises with the same agent because she was so good. That agent is no longer with MEI, so my upcoming Panama Canal Cruise was transferred to a different agent.

Should I book any future Disney cruises, I intend to use an agency that was the only one to email me about new Disney cruises -even though I’ve never used them before. The 2 agencies I have used (DU and MEI) sent me NO info.

Costco gives you the cash card, and it cruise cost is eligible for executive cash back.

And the card is much more than the OBC you get from a TA. It works out to about 8.5% of the cruise cost. If the cruise is 5K, the card would be $425. The higher the cost, the higher the card.

Great explanation. I use Dreams Unlimited and this is how it works with them.

Mine worked out to be 8.5% or a $1045 cash card.

I got $1045
Total fare: $12825
8.15%

Fare before taxes on Disney site: $12320
8.48%

Plus the 2%on executive membership
Plus 4% off by paying with BJs gift cards

We booked our first 2 cruises with DU because of the OBC, this time I debated booking with costco since the benefit was greater but I could not pay using my American Express which I need to in order to get my travel insurance therefore I went back to DU.

Travel Agents give OBC and their expertise which can often be invaluable. I used an agent all the time before I became one, even though I was an "expert" from being on the boards. I just felt like it was nice to have someone else helping with my trip and I developed a great relationship with my agent, too. She's still a great friend!
