Do you really take the time out...

to sit through any of the parades? My DH and I are taking our DDs (11 & 6) to WDW for their 1st trip! And I am curious how many people actually take the time to sit sit through the parades and if so which ones?

TIA!!! :goodvibes

We usually stake out locations where our sitting and waiting time is reduced substantially. But we usually do them all at least once. The exception to this was Block Party Bash and is now the 1/4 parade using hand me downs from Block Party Bash at the studios.

We hadn't watched a parade in quite a while until MSEP showed up. Now we don't miss it.

When we were little, we would sit through the parades. Now we haven't quite made time for them the past several trips. I'm definitely more interested in watching MSEP and the Christmas parade in the MK this trip. The Millennium parade they had at Epcot in 2000 was really fantastic too (although obviously that's not an option any more).

We use the afternoon parades as an opportunity to sit down and relax a little, get a Mickey ice cream bar and a drink. We scope out seats a few minutes early so we can sit in the shade. The parades aren't that long so it's not really that much time out of your day.

When the kids were young we would stake out a spot about 30 minutes in advance and use it as a break, having a mickey bar or a nice, cold drink. With kids the age of yours, I wouldn't miss the MK afternoon parade! We have seen the AK parade and it's OK, but not on the scope or scale of the MK parade at all. DD is now 18 and doesn't necessarily want to sit through the MK afternoon parade, but we still see them occasionally. (we go to WDW every other year, usually hitting MK 2 or 3 times while there)

I Would Not Miss and evening parade at MK, either MSEP or Spectromagic. They are amazing!!! So yes, definitely take your kids to the parades; they are so much part of the fun!!

We've seen most of them once, but we always make time for the Main Street Electrical Parade or Spectromagic. They are not to be missed. If you're not parade people, they might not be worth the time but a lit-up nighttime parade with music is just hard to pass up!

Ditto, and we are NOT night people, but Spectromagic is amazing and I can't wait to see MSEP in January!

I never thought I was a parade person until I saw the MVMCP parade -- it was then I became a believer!

My favorite Disney parades
1) MVMCP parade
2) Spectromagic
3) Main Street Electrical Parade
4) MNSSHP parade

OP: is your DD6 into the princesses at all? If so, here's some food for thought. When we were there this summer, our DD6 was wearing her Belle dress during the afternoon parade at MK. A lot of the princesses and a couple of the princes noticed her and specifically waved to her/interacted with her from their floats. I honestly can't say if her dress made her stand out more or if the parade characters are just that interactive with everyone along the route; whatever the reason, it was truly magical. I'll never forget the look on her face--priceless. :lovestruc

Everyone is different, but personally I think the Disney parades offer a bit of magic no matter how old you are. Even as an adult I get excited to wave at Mickey. :)

My father would not let us watch the parades when I was a kid because that was prime ride time. Now that I take my own trips, I watch every damn one! I could probably use some therapy for that but I do get where he was comming from.

My kids are younger (3 and 2) but when asked, the parades are by far their favorite part. They even loved the quick "Celebrate" parade that ran a few times at Magic Kingdom. When we watched the afternoon parade, I literally had to reach out and grab my youngest because he almost ran right out into the parade to hug the characters. I think most of the people around us were watching him watch the parade :)

Now, 8 months later, they talk about WDW almost every day, and the parades specifically. The characters were waving at them, they sat on my shoulders, there were lights, etc. They just love them.

For me personally, I will never go to WDW and not see the night parade (MSEP or Spectromagic) at MK. My favorite :)

We never miss a parade. I am a big kid, that is what Disney is all about, right? I don't love them all, but I love the MK parades and think DHS is fun and gets you moving. Please take in all the magic with your children and that includes parades, shows and nighttime spectaculars.

My son and I (who is 23) never miss a parade especially the night parades, Spectromagic and MSEP. Also the MNSSHP and MVMCP parades should not be missed. WDW parades are not any other parades you see anywhere else..

The afternoon parades are not very long at all. I would say ten minutes tops.

Not me. Maybe it's having a daughter that was in Girl Scouts and then marching band, but I am seriously paraded out after 11 years of parades. I know "It's Disney!" but I am just not going to stake out a spot for a parade.

I usually always try to see the parades at least once everytrip. However we do skip the block parties.

I'm not willing to stake my claim and hold it long enough to see a parade, but may try harder next time when I'm there with my youngest. The AK parade goes back over its own route, so it's supposedly easier to catch near the end (the people who lined up to watch it have wandered off by the time it comes back around), for instance. And it's supposed to be easier to get a seat later for the MK parade in Frontierland than it is on Main Street. The HS parade doesn't look worth the effort, though.

We do like the "Move It! Shake It!" parade, because it's not so mobbed, and because middle daughter loves the opportunity to run out and dance with the parade participants. The costumed characters freak her out at little, but she's happy to dance with the guys on stilts and other Disney dancers. :goodvibes

I cant stress enough the importance of taking your time to take it all in and not "overdoing it".

Second this, with the caveat that you can't "do it all", so trying to do it all is either going to be frustrating or you're deluding yourself. I think it makes more sense to be sure you're having fun whatever you're doing than to worry about what you're not getting done. And in my experience, some people who believe they've "done it all," haven't. :p They've done all the "musts" on some list they read somewhere and really don't have any grasp of what all there is to do. Which is fine if they're happy, unless you're a newbie trying to get some useful info out of them.

I think it's cool that you can go to WDW for one or more days, never go on a ride if you don't want to, and still be totally entertained the whole time.

Exactly. I am not much of a rides person, and I have asked some rabid Disney fans, "What is there to do at Disney other than rides?" and they've told me, "nothing. If you don't like rides, don't go." :sad2: Fortunately, I knew better. ;)

For our first trips, and our childrens' first trips when they were small, yes, we would try to catch the parades.

Since then - the afternoon parades, oh HECK no! I haven't seen one in years. No one has any interest, Its way too hot and crowded and uncomfortable, and I would MUCH rather use that time to ride rides.

We usually try to catch SpectroMagic once per trip. Last fall, the Electric Light Parade was playing instead - we have all seen it a couple of times at Disneyland and don't like it as much, so we skipped it.

About the only ones we catch everytime, without fail, are the parades that go on during the special hard-ticketed events, like the Boo to You parade at MNSSHP.

No, but then again we don't have kids. We ride the rides while folks are watching the parade because the lines are normally a little bit lower at those times. :goodvibes

My 2yo would be very upset. Plus it's a nice way to take a break during the day and a nice way to end the day at the parks.

We went 2x with the boys (2 and 4yo) and then again (5 and 7 yo) and they just didn't have the patience to sit and wait for a parade. If one happened to go by we'd stop and look. Otherwise it's the rides for us!

Going again in Feb and they will be 10 and 12, so we may just take the time out to see one....
