Do you put postage on your income tax return

We haven't put postage on our returns for years. Just put HMS (her majesty's service) where the stamp normally goes.

When you send a letter to your MP or it's something the government is making you send, it supposed to be free. I wonder if that's changed.

The last couple of years, I noticed the big, bold message on the envelope saying "don't take a chance, remember the stamps!" and also the "affix sufficient postage" message.

As of last year, our tax returns still made it to the government without a stamp, and we got our refunds in a timely fashion.

I think I might start putting a stamp on my returns.

We have had ours efiled by our finance guy for the past few years but prior to this, ALWAYS put postage on. Usually double stamps due to weight!!!!
After all the hard work doing the taxes, I wouldn't want to risk them being returned!!!

I netfile as well but if I were to mail it in I would put postage on it, I WANT my money fast and would not risk the post office returning it to me.

Definitely use stamps! It's like paying an extra $1.02 in taxes.

I work next door to a government building ... for years I have just dropped mine into their mail slot for "internal mail" :teeth: I know of quite a few people who have never put stamps on their tax return and never had a problem. I'm not sure I'd want to chance it though.

I believe any government mail does not require a stamp. The last few years I have net filed or tele filed. When I did mail the return all I put on it was one stamp even though I knew it was over weight.

My father worked for the post office up to a year ago (he retired) and says he never put a stamp on his.

I work at a PO outlet and the CPC newletter said, no matter the weight or thickness, a single 1 class stamp was proper for any tax package, in other words, they do no get weighed or measured. In my family,we have never used postage on tax returns, just the letters "HMS" Her Majesty's Service. Not once has the tax package been returned.
