Do you pronounce the menu items names when ordering?

I have a tendency to mangle pronunciations even when they are in English. That being said I always attempt to pronounce what I'm ordering (while my brother laughs at me ) and point at the item on the menu to be sure the waiter understand what I'm trying to get at.

I ordered my order at Via Napoli in perfect Italian and the waiter repeated the order back in perfect English...

My wife ordered in Spanish at San Angel Inn. Despite the fact that even I knew she mis-pronounced her appetizer, the waitress took the order and repeated it, in English.

As long as they understand what you're ordering, they're fine with you trying to pronounce the items you're ordering. I've never seen any of them laugh.

This is so funny and I never really thought about it before. It's a great question! It made me stop and think about what I do when ordering. I'm a combo pointer/verbalize it too, with all languages. The only time I DON'T say it is when I'm somewhere they have "cutesy" names for their dishes, like Denny's. I refuse to say "Moon Over My Hammy!"

So for all you menu pointers out there -- I urge you, at WDW at least, to open up and ask your CM for help. It could make the difference between a good and a great experience (and one thing's for sure, you won't be made to feel inadequate!).

And that's great for "people" people but it's not great for me. What I do though is research the menu options and even though I can't pronounce the dish correctly, I know what it is.

There is no way in heck I'm going to openly say "Croque monsieur et sa salade verte" but I know it's a grilled ham and cheese sandwich with a side salad. And I can guarantee you that even if the server told me how to pronounce that dish, I would forget it in about five seconds.

People are different. I point - the husband attemps and engages with the servers. And we enjoy life together.
