Do you play an instrument?

I'm tone deaf but I live with a recreational drummer :). I'm hoping the headaches will go away eventually ;)

Glad your concert went well!

I sing, play the piano, and I also play saxophone (though I hadn't picked up a sax in any significant way for almost 10 years, but tonight is opening night for a show that I'm playing in the pit band for, and it's been a lot of fun playing again!) I have an acoustic guitar, but I haven't really learned how to play it.

Piano, Organ, fife & a bit of guitar

I play the violin. DS12 plays trombone and piano. Our twins (10) just got done with their recorder unit in music class. We too have been subjected to MANY years of listening to "Hot Cross Buns" at the spring concert. Well, new music teacher this year decided to play a different song "MICKEY MOUSE CLUB MARCH"! The twins also play piano.

Piano, organ, and flute.

I play tuba, also. I play in a local community band. There seem to be a lot of tuba players around. We have up to 3 in our band which has less than 20 people in it.

Been playing piano since I was very young...for about 30 years now. Can pick around with a guitar a little.

Browneyes - I remember those nerve wracking recitals very well. Good luck to your daughter.

I played the violin for years but had to quit in high school when forced to make a choice between orchestra at 0 hour (before school) or morning swim practice. I had more years invested in swimming, so that's the way I went.

I've still got the violin, but after having rented it to someone to use in school, I find it missing its D string, rosin, and, for all intents and purposes, its bow (the thing's jacked beyond all comprehension). Dunno what the kid did to it, but man, that's annoying.

Go YOU!

Nope. My son plays the bass fiddle, though. My husband plays the guitar.

Sadly, I don't play a musical instrument. Wish I did.

I love these musical threads and hearing what everyone's up to. I play organ (played in church for years), piano (same), clarinet & guitar. I play in a community band with my 18 yr. old son (he plays saxophone, bass trombone, tuba, flute & soprano sax). I was also a choir director at church for years and like to sing.

This is cool!

I play piano (took organ lessons for 10 years then went to college and discovered pianos were much easier to come by - and more satisfying to play!)

My DH plays guitar (electric and acoustic) and used to play French Horn.

My DD13 plays flute - 3rd chair so far.

My DD10 plays piano (YEA!) and has a very sweet and clear singing voice.

We have a musical household - it's fun when we've all got something going on in a different room!!

I played the drums in band years ago. I have a piano that I play a little bit. Wish I could play better. :)

I played/play the cello. In fact, I have to start practicing it again, as I and 2 wonderful vocalists are to perform at our church in about 2 months. I love playing ... I even played 1 season in the Royal Oak (Michigan) Community Orchestra. That was a bit above me, as those musicians were awesome.

Voice for 12 years and piano in college.

no. DH plays guitar & bass. Oldest DD plays viola. baby is only 2 so nothing yet.

Clarinet. In FL when my marching band went, we were named Best Band in the land! Trying out for squad leader!!! :)

duh-duh-duh-duh-duh duh-duh-duh-duh-duh WE PLAY WITH PRIDE duh-duh-duh! (drum cadence!) :rockband:

Awesome thread, btw!

I played cello in middle school (grade 7-9). I had never even seen a real cello before, and by the end of 9th grade I could play quite well and read music (well, in bass clef I could read it!). Unfortunately we moved to another district that had no string program. Even if we would have stayed in the original district the high school didn't have a string program so I would have had to go to the performing arts high school. Back then I think I would have given up the cello just to go to the same school as the rest of my friends.

Anyway, I stopped playing because there really wasn't a program. I didn't ever really check into youth orchestra through the community. Hindsight is 20/20, I suppose.

DS starts 4th grade in the Fall and he will be eligible to take up an instrument. We'll see if he chooses to give it a try.

DH and I both have graduate degrees in music and between us I think we nearly cover the whole orchestra!! I have played trumpet and cornet for 20 years and also play the flute, clarinet, recorder and several early music instruments. I also sing. My DH plays the violin, bass guitar, guitar and piano and he also plays folk instruments. We both play regularly still in orchestras for shows at theatres in our spare time and DH is a high school music teacher. We are also in a theatre society so take part in many shows a year.
