I am a 27 year breast cancer survivor. I know many other survivors. In fact, I'm happy to say that I know more survivors than people who did not make it.

When I had my mastectomy bra business I knew so many... the stories were amazing.

My favorite was a lady who was diagnosed when her children were 4 and 5. She prayed that she made it till they're out of school...

That was in the 60s and now her CHILDREN'S CHILDREN are out of school!!

Her story made my business soooo worth it.

I wish my own mother had survived....:sad1:... but they caught it too late.:guilty:

I said no, but I had forgotten someone. My boyfriend has a friend who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, actually "died" three times (his heart stopped...the place where the tumor was caused his circulation to be completely cut off) and was brought back by CPR. This was three years ago and he is in complete remission now.

My uncle fought, and successfully beat, throat cancer. 3 yrs later, he got liver cancer, and was given 6 months. He drove to another state for all kinds of treatments, and that 6 months became 2 1/2 yrs.

On another note, here is a newspaper article about a wonderful man, who brings hope to many (and has survived cancer). http://www.news-herald.com/articles/2009/05/27/news/nh947082.txt

2 of my friends, my grandma, and hundreds of people whom I have met through my volunteer work with the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life.

Congratulations to all of you who said you were survivors.

I voted twice.

My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer several years ago. It was inoperative and they gave him 6-8 months. They told him 2% of people beat it and he did! He's doing great now. They actually took a bunch of blood and sent it out somewhere for scientists to study to see if they could figure out why he was able to beat it.

Sadly my mother died from pancreatic cancer when she was 36.

My mother has breast cancer that has gone into other parts of her body. The Dr has given her 9 years. Shes still alive and doing well now. We will see what happens in 5-9 years.

ETA - A woman I work with has survived breast cancer.

I was 32 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Mother of a 4 and 2 year old. I was scared! With surgery, chemo, and prayer, I will be hit my 6-year cancer free anniversary in November!

Yes I do....My Dad is a prostate cancer survivor. Thank you Lord for your strength you have given my Dad.....

My sister's husband was diagnosed with lymphoma some twelve years ago. They had four fairly young children and it was pretty worrying. He went through surgery, and radiation, and was cancer-free for almost five years, but at his five year check-up it had come back again. He went through all the treatments again and now has been cancer-free for nearly seven years. This summer he walked his second daughter down the aisle at her wedding! Unfortunately, he's currently unemployed so we are hoping he finds something soon.

My dad had colo-rectal cancer, had the tumors removed, had some radiation, and is cancer-free and healthy 10 years later. He just celebrated his 84th birthday and has changed his lifestyle to an organic/holistic/all-natural way. Unfortunately his father died of the same cancer, but he lived in Turkey where the treatments were subpar.

Me - Yes! Kidney removed in 2001.

Judy - No! Ovarian diagnosed as Stage 4 in Jnauary 2004, lasted until November 2004. (See In Memorium Forum here.)

yes, me!! I have stage 4 thyroid cancer, but its the rare and agressive variant that is the unknown. So far, its 9 months and I am doing good. They cant give me any statistics as they only get about 1-2 people a year at the hosp. with this type they say. Every day is a blessing. I thank God for each one of them!!

I work in a doctor's office and we have many cancer survivors. I have also known many people personally who beat it. The most recent one was my stepdad. He beat prostate cancer right around the time my youngest child was born last year.

Sadly, I have also known many who weren't so lucky and wish that weren't the case. :(

My brother - prostate cancer - PSA numbers were so far off the chart they thought there was a mistake. Stage 4 - 15 years ago. Sloane Kettering didnt want to touch him. Thank God he had a good dr who did surgery, he then did radiation and is here today He was 48 when he got the cancer and was only discovered when he was having problems with another issue.

My MIL is a breast cancer survivor. Had a double mascectomy (sp?) and lymph nodes removed 3 years ago and still cancer free. :thumbsup2
