Do you have any success stories you want to share? Anyone you know who has beaten this terrible disease?

My Dad - almost 6 years ago. Prostate cancer. Kicked its hiney (which is only fair considering its location)

I know 2 people. My MIL had skin cancer and my friend had breast cancer 3 times, the last time she had her lymph nodes taken out (as did my MIL) and she has been cancer free for 8 years now.

Yes, my Aunt Mary beat breast cancer, my dad's best friend beat colon cancer, a little neighbor girl looks to have beat leukemia and it was not looking good for her. She had a bone marrow transplant in April 2008 and that gave her a 50% shot and she is doing great! But, I have another aunt who is fighting lung cancer (nonsmoker) and it has spread to some of her glands. She's headed to Mayo soon. :guilty:

Yay me!!! 2x cancer survivor!! :cool1::banana::love:

First time-
A little over 8 years ago, I was pregnant with dd. Hadtoruble breathiing and other stuff towards the end of my pregnancy. Then I had dd, was tired and not too well.

Well five months after she was born I was feeding her in the middle of night and coughed. Well a bunch of blood came up. Yuck! I got the cancer diangnosis on the morning of 9/11 as I watched the towsers collapse. :sad1:

Five weeks later I had my entire left lung removed. Followed up with several months of radiation b/c it had spread to my lymph nodes (which were removed). Luckily for me it was Carcinoid cancer and the traditional form of lung cancer given the size of t he tumor.

Since then having been doing well - there have been some false positive but my remaining lung is free and clear to date. At the ten year mark I will be officially in "remission."

Second time--
A year ago after routine GYN exam and tests there were not so good test results, two biopsies (sp?) later I found out I had cervical cancer. In December 08 I had hysterectomy. So far so good there too.

:cheer2::grouphug:

My SIL beat it three times for 12 years. Unfortunately the 4th time was too much and she lost her battle this past Jan. at the age of 42. This may not be what you want to hear by she was really amazing.

Her first cancer was stage 4 Ovarian that had spread outside her ovaries and to her lungs. The dr's didn't hold out much hope, but she beat it. Then she got a very aggresive breast cancer and beat that also. Then she got another form of breast cancer and once again beat the odds. About a year ago she found out that the first breast cancer had come back and spread to her bones and liver and that was when she finally lost her battle.

So while she lost in the end, she did beat it three times.

yep

2 children that I know personally, 3 people from church, my FIL and several more but those are who I think right off the top of my head.

DH's Aunt had breast cancer over 30 years ago. Still alive and well today :goodvibes

co-worker had leukemia >6 years ago. Alive and Well.

My Uncle, pancreatic cancer- almost 2 years ago . So far so good!

A baby I delivered had cancer at birth. He is a alive and well 3+ years now :)

My husband's first cousin beat leukemia (she just graduated from high school with honors), his brother survived testicular cancer, 2 ladies I worked with survived breast cancer (one of them was extremely young with first DX at 24) and my great aunt survived breast cancer as well.

My dad was not so fortunate, but there were extenuating circumstances and he rejected options to treat it more aggressively than he did.

I know quite a few!:thumbsup2 The most exceptional case is my MIL a 3X cancer survivor. Breast cancer 17 years ago and bowel cancer twice, 6 years ago.

Yep! that would be me too! I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer 15 years ago. I had a complete hysterectomy and have had no cancer scares since. It was caught really early. I only needed the hysterectomy- no radiation or chemo necessary.

I have a friend that had stage 4 breast cancer- and she's beat it too- it's been over 5 years for her.

Cancer is a scarey thing, but there are so many medical advances in this field, that it make sit a little less scarey than it use to be!

WOW!!! Talk about a bad day!!!
Congrats on beating it twice!!!:grouphug:

Yes, me. :)

My friend's son who is 7, my brother, my grandmother, two of my aunts, etc....

Yes, me! In the summer of 2007, at 14 years old, I was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, bone cancer. I had 10 months of chemotherapy and now have a total knee replacement. (Instead of amputation, because mine was in my knee) I've been in remission for 18 months and I hope to keep it that way!

I know many cancer survivors - I made friends along the way, and several of my friends from school were diagnosed before and after me. My area is a freak show in terms of cancer, lots of children with cancer around here. :sad2: I also know people who've lost their battles with cancer, and I have a lot of survivor's guilt because of that. It only makes me fight harder for a cure, though.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month! Wear GOLD to raise awareness for childhood cancer!

2 of my closest friends have beaten breast cancer- both had double mastectomies. I of those 2 also beat kidney cancer-kidney removed.
My cousin had the same kidney cancer and had the kidney removed.
Unfortunatley 2 of my BILs-1 lung cancer, 1 testicular cancer, my FIL-non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), and my great-aunt-cervical cancer were not as fortunate.

Another breast cancer survivor chiming in.....after mastectomy, chemo, and radiation, it's been almost three years now!

My son. He was diagnosed at 7, he's 12 now, with a brain tumor, meduloblastoma. We were told that it is common for boys around his age. We knew two other children who were diagnosed about a month after my son's tumor was found with same type of cancer, both girls tho. Zoe lived for about 18 months after her diagnosis and surgery and Brianna died almost a year ago, 3 years after her original diagnosis. Both girls had relapses multiple times which made their chances of surviving less and less.

Also my grandmother twice over. She had skin cancer and breast cancer. She survived both and lived to the ripe old age of 98.

I hate this flipping disease!
