Do you only get upgraded if you have a GTY reservation? I just booked a cat 11 for 11 of us on a 7 day eastern April 1, 2006. I was wondering if there is a chance we would be upgraded. We don't have a GTY. Also, it is spring break for us...so I am guessing a full ship.

Upgrades have been known to happen even if you have not booked a GTY cabin. We booked GTY11 and were upgraded to a 9 last March.

Does your entire party have its reservations linked. It seems unlikely you would all be upgraded, especially since upgrades really are a rare occurrence.

It is my understanding that the ships pretty much always sail full, so I don't think being Spring Break will make much of a difference.

Good luck! Sending some Pixie Dust your way. Hope you have a great time.

We have assigned room numbers for our cruise next year and the TA told us that upgrades happen on assigned rooms OR guarantee rooms in the past. She assigned us rooms so that even if we don't get an upgrade, at least we are on a part of the ship where we will be happy.

As the previous post said, I also kind of thought that we might not get upgraded because we are going with a group of 18 (5 rooms) and they are all linked and we are going in the summer when they probably book quickly and do not need to provide upgrades. Besides, I would hate it if one of us got upgraded and not all. I do not want any hard feelings on the trip. :goodvibes

I am still keeping my fingers crossed, just not holding my breath. We currently have Category 11s and would love a window. But, we have to go in July to coincide with the schedules of some in our group and to go to a higher category during that busy tine of the year was just out of the price range of some traveling with us. We'll wait and see. :wizard:

On the other hand, maybe since we booked in the summer, there will be alot of people wanting a lower category and since we booked early we could get bumped up. Who knows? DCL doesn't have a casino, but this is kind of like gambling? :rotfl:

There is no rhyme or reason know to anyone except DCL why people get upgraded. I also believe that each cruise may have it's own set of circumstances that determine who gets upgraded. And people do find out that they've been up graded as late as when they've checked in at the port.

Rather than trying to book something a certain way to assure an upgrade, it's best to book what you know you'll be happy with and then if an upgrade occurs celebrate. Other wise there is just no way to increase or improve your chances of an upgrade. Other than paying for one at the port, which isn't always possible if the ship is sailing full.

I'm crossing my fingers that upgrades happen for those having a 10 yr. wedding anniversary!! :lovestruc We spent a great honeymoon at Disneyland Paris and are hoping for a great anniversary trip on the Magic as well! Hey, it's Disney....it's ALL good! :cheer2:

we were upgraded on the last 2 3-day cruises we were on...On one, our TA called us with the news a few weeks prior...the next time, we were upgraded at the port , in addition to friends of ours cruising with us

Lucky you! We would be REALLY lucky if the other families with us were upgraded too...there are 4 families in our group! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Sorry...we just celebrated our 25 year anniv. onboard with DCL and they knew about it, but no upgrade....so don't be too upset if it doesn't happen!!!! You are so right...It is Disney..so it is all good!!!

Do you think we would be upgraded if we booked a cat. 5? Sounds unlikely to me, but would be great! It's our 10 year anniversary as well!! :rotfl:

Thanks for the info. We did book our cabins based upon where we wanted to be on the ship. I will just hope for some pixie dust....

Just curious, were your reservations linked together? Or was it just coincidence that they got upgraded too? This gives me some hope! :cool1:

I am actually hoping NOT to be upgraded. We have a cat 5 and 11 directly across the hall from each other on deck 7 midship. I get nervous about those cat 11s being upgraded, and I dont want half my family down on deck 2, the others on deck 7. Our reservation is linked, but I have been so worried about our cat 11 being upgraded (we booked SO early), I am calling just to make sure they are linked together. Here's hoping everyone that wants the upgrade gets it instead of us!! Good luck! :goodvibes

We were upgraded on our 2nd DCL cruise. The reservation was made onboard our first cruise with assigned room numbers. 2 parties linked together in adjoining Cat 11s and we were both upgraded 2 days before the cruise to adjoining Cat 8s. Also even though we original booked onboard we had transferred our reservation to Costco.

I just wanted to say, Michelle2, you have the cutest family I have ever seen! So many redheads!!! Does their dad have red hair too?
