Do you need an oven?

I use my oven all the time.

biscuits
chocolate chip cookies
tater tots
keep pancakes warm while I finish cooking the rest of the stacks
reheat leftovers that would get soggy in the microwave

Until I actually see you do it, I will stand by my statement that I have never SEEN anyone baking cookies on a camping trip.

Mmmmm... don't be surprised to see a group of hungry campers outside your door! :lmao:

We use the following GE Convection Toaster Oven in the trailer and only augment it with the gas overn (propane costs) and it was around $50 at WM.

At home we use the larger Hamilton Beach Convection Toaster Oven one instead of firing up our huge oven just for things like baked potatoes, etc.

The HB one also has a rotisserie in it and will do like a 6lb chicken and makes killer cornish hens and has two shelves where the GE can really only handle one shelf.

You guys are making me hungry!

Even at home, the oven is used about twice a week while the toaster oven is used everyday. I guess the toaster oven will take the place of the oven and then I think my in-laws have a small microwave I could borrow, if necessary.

Thanks for the suggestions about use of the bunks, I'm taking notes on everything I learn here... and I have a LOT to learn!

No, we have never been to Topsail. I found it by researching RV parks near Rosemary Beach where the wedding will take place. I feel lucky that I found it, b/c from what I have read, it's wonderful. My aunt and uncle that have a condo near there checked it out and told me there's no way it's a SP! I think I read that it was privately owned until recently when it became a SP. I've never even been to the panhandle, so this will be fun. The only downside is that we will be so excited to get to Disney, that I think we won't be able to fully appreciate the experience. :upsidedow

I am renting from Sunshine RV in Jacksonville. I have found a ton of places that rent mobile home style, but not travel trailers. The gentleman explained that is b/c there is more money to be made from renting out the mobile homes. :confused3

Our Cinderella Royal Table reservation is for breakfast, so is our Crystal Palace reservation. Both are before the park opens so any suggestions on getting there on time would be appreciated. The CM when I made the reservations assured me that if i tell a CM at FW, they will make sure we get there on time even if the ferry isn't running yet.

I went to Walmart earlier today and checked out the camping section... I have it bad! I wish we could go to our local SP this weekend for practice but alas, there's that little problem of no camper and it is the middle of winter! I tried to solve that by going on Craigslist and looking for a pop-up but dh is looking at a boat this weekend so I'd better get in line behind the boat.

To get to your early breakfasts will be no problem.

There is a small boat that runs between the Fort, the Contemporary, and Wilderness Lodge. This boat starts at 6:45 am. Take that boat to the Contemporary, and then walk over to Magic Kingdom from there, or walk upstairs to the monorail and take the monorail over to the Magic Kingdom.

i use my oven, too. i have made cookies while at the fort and you gotta have cheese dogs when you sit around the campfire. ::yes::

i also made some almond pound cake and taco dip in our oven..

you could just take a microwave &/or toaster oven with you. you will probably use a microwave more but, i like having my oven, too.

i thought the blender was the most valuable appliance in your camper ftwildernessguy :drinking1

I will admit, the Magic Bullet is the first thing I pack in the camper before I leave for a FW trip.

I love frozen drinks, especially when it's warm. Should I plan on purchasing more than just beer and wine?? Oh, I'm so excited.

Definitely go for the bunk beds. I can count on one hand the number of times I've used the oven in our camper. The microwave is a different story, but if you have the DDP, I would imagine your primary camper meal will be breakfast, and there are so many breakfasts you can have without an oven (cereal and fruit being the main breakfast meal for us). You could also bring along a small microwave, toaster oven or crock pot if you're concerned. Giving each kid some space, and the ability to close the door with them in anoher room, is well worth giving up an oven. We don't do the dining plan and we still don't end up eating in the camper much because we spend a lot of time in the parks.

We mainly now just use the electric toaster/convection oven since our new oven is the smaller 22" version. We used the larger 24 or 26 w/4 burners in our 1981 trailer all the time and on one trip to a home game at PSU when our son was still in college we cooked the full Thanksgiving feast while dry camping in a cow pasture. 9/10 lb turkey with all the trimmings, stuffing, baked sweet potatoes, fresh bread (actually canned but it was baked), cranberry sauce and pumpkin, chocolate cream pie w/wipped cream, and a cherry pie. O.K. only the chocolate cream was made in the trailer with the other two brought from home.

Not all in just the oven, but we bake/cook at FW just like we do at home including roasted cornish hens and even Prime Rib. Only thing I don't do is BBQ spareribs since I need a charcoal fire with wood chips to do that right so we usually just bring 1/2 rack frozen with us and either eat it cold or warm it up in the microwave. We only use the microwave for heating stuff, canned soups, defrosting and warming the dogs food.

Sorry Jim...
I'm with Denise..I've "baked" cookies in the camper...if you could call it that. I bought the cookie dough on a roll that you slice off and put on a baking sheet and pop in the oven. The ones with the cute little ghosts or pumpkin's on them. It was in October, they were good. Nice with a mug of hot mulled cider.
Also..I like to make garlic bread if we're having a pasta dinner. Use the oven for that too.

If I were renting a camper..I don't think I'd care if there was an oven..especially if the OP is using the dining plan while in Disney, don't think it would be an issue to be without an oven. I've found it comes in handy in our trailer though. Although I have to admit..I wouldn't want to do without the microwave in either a rental or our own.

I hope I get a chance to bake you some cookies in Oct. 2009. :thumbsup2

If we make it in Oct.,,there WILL be fresh baked chocolate chip cookies.
I can't imagine a camping trip with out fresh bake cookies, what kinda camping trip would that be !

Frank..you are a lucky man!

If I come in Oct. I will bring a fresh "ready to cut and bake" roll of Halloween cookies! That's as close as I get to baking when camping!
Come to think of it..that's as close as I come to baking period.:rotfl:
oh..that and brownies! ;)

I've done apple crisp in our camper oven. Super easy - I bring the dry mix that I make ahead, then just cut up apples, sprinkle and add butter. Voila! It's worth it just for the way it smells up the entire camper. Yummmmmmm.
